The Official COMC Thread - Questions, Concerns, Issues, Feedback

Possibly the slowest shipping company ever. I've made a request to send cards over to me on the 11th of March, took them 5 days to update status to ship on 16th of May and confirmed shipment on 20th of March and till today, 6th of May, I've received no cards from them despite paying $5.19 for the postage cost that includes $0.40 for each of the 6 toploaders.

I guess this will be the last time I'll be dealing with them. And it really makes me wonder how will top inventories like Swagcard feels should the company decides to fold and run away with his $1m BV worth of cards.

I'm really pissed off at COMC. Even EBay purchases I've made just 2 weeks back have arrived from the States (I'm based in Singapore).

This is their reply:

Hello Kelvin,

I apologize that you haven't received your package yet. Usually international packages do not take longer than 6 weeks to arrive. We make sure to ship the package out from us within our time frame which is one week for Standard orders. Once the package leaves our warehouse it is basically out of our control. The packages are sent using USPS First Class Mail. If a package takes longer in transit, it can usually mean that it is being held up at Customs. As far as other companies go, the combination of their products and shipping methods may have an impact on the arrival time. Even so, alot depends on Customs again

If you are concentrating alot on the card value, you can build up your online inventory by purchasing cards at good prices, then turn around and flip them on the site. Many users do this so they don't have to wait for the cards to ship to them each time. We understand that the asking price can change alot during a period, example Jeremy Lin. Then, at a later date you can request a shipment of your cards when they are not so volatile in prices. Please feel free to contact us again.

This is a weak attempt at pushing away all responsibility. I quote "Once the package leaves our warehouse it is basically out of our control". So as a buyer, I cannot hold COMC responsible and I must count on my luck that the package will arrive safely?

I guess this will be my last transaction with them. It has been almost 2 months since I requested for them to ship out the cards and the cards are still not with me. No doubt their prices are reasonable but the fact that someone mentioned their customer service is tiptop and the fact that they took more than a week to get my cards out is a no-go for me.

COMC will never make it big with this kind of service.

COMC is already big, of course there is going to be incidents from time to time. There is a lot of variables with International postage! The time it took them to send, I agree with you is a little long, but o worse then a lot of ebay sellers.

They, like ebay, will not go out of business because of a few unhappy people now and then, 90% of their transactions they probably never ever have trouble with!!

The first time I used them shipping was slow, 6 weeks or so at least, longer I think. But the 2 orders Ive had since them have been about the same as any other sender from around the world.

Unfortunately in a hobby that relies on buying stuff internationally there is a lot of variables and time involved. As long as the cards arrive to you safely all is well... But also like you, I was starting to worry after 6 or 7 weeks....... Surely if they don;t arrive in "x" amount of weeks they have to take some responsibility for the missing package, but then again ebay don't make anyone accountable for lost mail, the buyer just simply misses out!!

In terms of scale, COMC can never be compared to EBay. And their business model is not at all the same so I don't see why you should compare them. Just a small example, EBay has international sites in UK, SG, AU etc but COMC is USA only.

Now, this is where you get confused: I've given ample time for International Shipping, the only thing I'm upset about is their Customer Service. The first time I tried seeking advice, I was given a template reply that some customers in Canada (geographically just beside US in case you do not get the reference) receive their package in 6 weeks, international orders may take longer than that. Don't believe me? Try asking them a month after you have asked for cards to be shipped, that will be their standard reply. So given that the Canadian buyers typically takes 6 weeks to receive their stuff, it's beyond reasonable that I have to wait longer than 6 weeks?

Well, if you are looking at PC point of view then yes, i agree with your point that so long as the cards arrived safely, nothing else matters. But that's not in my case.

Well then, that my friend, you're wrong about EBay. Both buyer and seller are responsible in any transaction in EBay: The seller must send with tracking to ensure PayPal protection and the buyer is fully protected if he has paid under PayPal and can raise a claim anytime within 45 days if the package did not arrive. Buyer will be compensated. But for COMC? What rights do I have? How can they prove that their stuff has been sent? Talk is cheap.

The ebay and COMC references from me were purely because they both are big parts of our hobby...

Obviously you are upset, which is understandable, that your cards have taken to long to arrive, which you have a valid point on but it isn't exactly rare for some stuff to take longer the 6 - 8 weeks on occasions. It's just not worth the discussion/argument with you because you are set in your views/ways things should be...

Hi, ckeer. I'm Jeremy and I work for COMC. International shipping has always been a little tricky. It is true that we do not control the Post Office here. When the cards are finally delivered to you, it will not be by a COMC employee. In that sense we do not have control over what happens to the cards in the shipping process once they've left our facility. The United States Postal Service offers no package tracking or delivery confirmation services for international First Class shipments. In order to track packages we must send them either Registered Mail (which often ends up taking even longer) or Express. Either service starts at an additional $20 and goes up from there, making it very cost prohibitive; if we required our international customers to select one of those options, we'd rarely get any cross-border orders at all which would be bad for us and for foreign collectors who often don't have access to a local card shop. So you're right: we cannot prove that we've mailed an international package, and our promise is only as good as the number of customers who have ordered from us and received their items safely. We currently ship to over fifty countries with great success, which we hope testifies on our behalf.
The mention of Canada in our reply was for perspective and describes an extreme and not a typical example. We can drive to British Columbia in a couple hours but for whatever reason the mail we send there will occasionally take the interest of the United States Customs Department and will be delayed by weeks.
If a package ever takes longer than six weeks to arrive, please contact our customer service team and allow them to assist you. While we can't dig through shipping containers to physically find your package, there are some options available.

Thanks very much,
Jeremy, COMC

I have made another shipment request after that failed delivery. hoping that COMC will do good this time.

Here is the status:

Requested on 5/16/2012
Status: Shipped on 2012-05-21
Ship Date: 5/21/2012

It's a little over 3 weeks now and I've just received the mail and there's this mark on the package that stood out:

COMC.jpg

It has "MISSENT TO JAKARTA" stamped on it. In case you do not know, Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia while I am based in Singapore. Even though both countries are in Asia and geographically close, they are not the same country.

It makes me wonder if the missing package was due to this reason? Did the staff at the Post Office mix up the destination or was the fault with the sorting process in COMC?

I am really lucky that this time round the package got to me safely.

Rather than start a new thread, Hopefully someone reads this that can help.....

I am sitting on heaps of cards here that i want to sell... I am scared of getting ripped off on feebay by scammers So am seriously considering sending in a heap of cards to COMC to sell.
Has anyone here sold on there before from OZ?? is it going to be worth it.
The way i look at it, if i sell on ebay i get listing fees, final value fees and paypal fees, I also have to go to the post office who knows how many times, i have to pack all the cards myself and buy top loaders and bubble mailers etc. And also take into account that chances are HIGH that i will get scammed on some sales losing out even more.
So all up taking that into account think it makes the 20% cash out fee on COMC look pretty good. considering all i need to do is bulk pack them and send them to one place.. They scan them and write up the details etc, and i just set my prices. And i am presuming i can feel safe i wont get ripped off.

any other thoughts or experiences with selling there?

Hello COMC users,
I thought I could purchase cards and leave them in my inventory or whatever it is called, and then purchase more the next day/week/month and keep adding them all together and then send them all at once?
Yesterday I purchased 30 charles barkley cards and I had to pay for the postage straight away and I believe they will be shipped straight away. How do I keep them in my inventory and make one large shipment, say when i have 100-200 cards in there?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Alex

There are two options when you go to purchase, one includes paying for postage straight away, and one where you can choose to ship later. Just have a closer read next time you go to make a purchase :)

Love the site, but some things are a little confusing.
I've sent an offer on a card, and have recieved a counter-offer which I am willing to accept, but I can't see anything saying to accept the offer or buy at the offered price.
Could someone please explain what I should be looking for?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Alex

thanks, i did work out hat you can view what the top buyers etc... have bought but i was hoping to see if you could search for certain cards that might have sold.

also keen to hear anyones experiences selling through COMC.Thinking about using them to offload some MMA & Hockey cards.

I'd likely use any credit earned towards purchases rather than cashing out.

I use them, but it's really only worth it from Aus on medium/high-end stuff, shipping to the US with tracking gets expensive..
