Just saw the first case break of 2012 National Treasures Football post on the Panini blog. Was kind of checking it to see what we may be expecting to see later on for NT Basketball.
And also because Panini was promising more on-card autos than they ever did for NT.

Kind of have to say im a bit dissapointed at 12 to 7 (sticker vs on-card autos), i would be expecting much better for a $400-500 box.

I was hoping they would really step up on NT this year, but from the first looks of this years NT Football im not getting my hopes up for the Basketball release later on.

It makes me miss UD Exquisite with NBA licence even more, better designs and from what i remember 100% on-card autos (cant remember seeing one sticker auto).

I cant believe how such a high-end expensive product doesnt have 75-100% on-card autos, and how it warrants such a high price tag.

Any thoughts on how you guys feel on the upcoming NT Football or Basketball?

The market will adjust itself accordingly. That high price tag will eventually go up or go down depending the quality of the cards or in particular the demand of the card. The more sticker autos they put inside the product, the more likely the price will stagnate or go down. If you think about the exquisite products, because all their autos are on-card, the demand just shot right through the roof and so did the price. Lets wait and see what the market thinks about the product. Personally, I rather spend my money on mid-range products like Prizm or Select. Much more fun and better value for money.

I'd like to see NT with all on card autos and get rid of the junky sticker autos and swap them for a rare insert set or two.

Some of the logomen were ruined with a sticker auto.

They should chase down a few new signers like Karl Malone, Duncan and maybe a couple of other big names to go with Kobe and whoever other spokesman they already have.

I think NT is gonna be great and the past products are awesome too. At least it will stay at around $400-$500 per box and not go out to $1k+.

I think there is going to be plenty of value in this product, past years still have some growing to do IMO. Great set.

I just hope they also come up with a newer base set and a different parallel to go with it, they always look the same/similar.

If I was a box buster, I would be saving my $$$ for this product. A case to break would be good fun.

Exquisite will always be better because you had 3 guys Jordan/Kobe/Lebron signing and a heap of other legends all on card and with excellent designs and auto patches.

But NT is the best thing since. Looking forward to watching some breaks.

From memory there are a few sticker autos in exquisite. Some Kobe redemptions were sent out with a sticker silver pen auto and a Jersey auto of pippen had a sticker too.

Yep you are right, i remember seeing that Pippen Limited Logos with the sticker auto on ebay recently.

You can also look at it that the monster hits you can pull dont warrant a higher price tag. I would love to see a little more effort from Panini to get all on-card stuff for NT, instead of trying to give "added" value with more hits which are usually 5 regular GU /99 that dont even sell for $1-3.

You are definitely right they should chase down more Stars and Legends, Wade being a good start. But the lack of star autos this year and the 100 rookie class lets me to believe that will probably not happen. With relative ease Leaf and UD get players like K.Malone, R.Miller, Iverson etc to sign for them. But there are so many great players that dont have any signed NBA cards coming out (Rose, Melo, Garnett, Dwight, Duncan, Ewing, Miller, Iverson, Kemp, Barkley etc.)

Im not trying to advertise Upper Deck (i have had my fair share of bad experiences with them as well), but i cant understand how UD was able to release multiple close to 100% on-card auto products (Premier, Black, Exquisite, SP Authentic, Chronology) and Panini cant even get their best and most expensive product to deliver over 50% on-card autos?

The potential is there with NT, but for me it isnt living up to its huge price tag. It will probably stay at picking up some singles for me.

I totally agree, alot more can be done and should be. Let's hope Panini have lined their pockets a little with their domination of the market and can pick things up a bit.

Sticker autos are my biggest gripe and there's WAY too many out there.

Exquisite did an incredible job. Even Ultimate is probably the 2nd best for autos/patches there has been. UD had it sorted.

Unfortunately its either Sticker Autos or Redemptions these days.....sure UD had hard signed autos with Exquisite Basketball ill give them this but from what ive heard its harder getting players to sign these days. For them its a chore!

As a side story, I know Panini was relentlessly chasing Chris Paul for autos when he was in Dallas recently (where Panini gets a majority of their autos when players come to town) and they couldnt get him to sign. Whether he was busy or he didn't want to do it? Who knows?

If they have stock of sticker autos, they can use them anytime.....if not its redemption cards and no guarantee that the cards will ever be signed.

Cheers
Matt

Chris Paul most likely didn't sign I'm guessing because UD would probably be paying decent coin and Panini don't??? Just a guess.

The players sign a shed load more autos these days than before. How does Kobe even shoot so well, he must sign 1000 per day as the spokesman for Panini. They ride him pretty hard.

Even the redemptions are for sticker autos. How does that work?

I'd really like to know how much the players get paid to do a signing session.

I wish they'd get rid of probably half the auto sets they have and go back to designing.

CP3 has an agreement to sign with them, just hasnt done so.

From memory, Fleer/Skybox were paying McGrady $50 per auto at the time he was becoming one of the best in the league.

All depends on the player and what they charge......having exclusives like Kobe/Durant allows them to get a lot of autograph content at probably a much better rate (at volume) than adhoc signers.

For Kobe they say you will get paid to be a spokesperson, sign X amount of memorabilia and x amount of cards/stickers.

From memory lebron was being paid $1 Million by UD for his deal.

I may get some slack for this by I've preferred the last couple of NT releases RPA's to any of the Exquisite RPA's except for maybe the 03-04 release. Definitely stoked to see what they got planned for this years.
