Futera Unique 2013

So would you feel confident purchasing any of their autographed cards? Some of the Utd ones I'm interested in, look really dodgy IMO
Not 100% confident, no. Any I am interested in I compare to other signatures of the same player I can find online.

The auto's look alright to me - show us 2 cards Jefferson (one real, and one maybe dicey)? so we can compare them.

The Scholes autographed card is raising my suspicions, but I'm basing the comparison on some autographed memorabilia that Scholes signed which was available on the online United megastore. Perfectly plausible that players have different autographs based on what they're signing.

EDIT: The reason I'm bringing up authenticity is because I remember having a conversation with rishgoon about how one of the players actually replied over Twitter saying he didn't sign any of the cards etc.

give us a minute I'll chase it up

There's a fair bit on the net about fake Futera autos. I got this proof from the great man Ian Wright Wright Wright

My personal suspicions:

RVP Futera Signed Card - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2013-FUT...ards&hash=item3f23cc9a1d&_uhb=1#ht_602wt_1397

RVP Signed boot (From Icons who are behind the Messi card collection) - http://www.icons.com/robin_van_persie/robin_van_persie_signed_boot_march2013

The boot was signed at the end of last year and what's noticeable is the amount of detail in RVP's signature on the boot compared to the Futera card.

EDIT: rishgoon Didn't your mate also get confirmation from Giusseppe Rossi that he didn't sign anything?

Yes. I only knew him through Twitter, and he's not on anymore so I haven't been able to track Rossi's reply. But I saw it. I just hit up Futera again on Twitter with the above pictures. They didn't say anything last time I did, see if they have an answer this time.

Cards have flooded ebay. The checklist is a bit off, thinking that Podolski was the only Arsenal autograph. So far have sighted Sagna, Vermaelen, Mertesacker and Giroud. Wowee.
Still some dud-looking, off-centered signatures, but plenty of nice ones too.

bit off topic, but i just seen a pic of sagnas wife, shit hes doing well for himself.

The last Futera Unique checklist had stated that there were 4 different Tim Cahill autograph cards numbered to 50, but only two ever made it into the packs. What ever happened to the other two? I did see one of the missing cards show up with the 2012 online release but they were supposed to be in the Unique release as stated on the checklist.

Was mentioned on another forum by the site owner that they had been in correspondence with Futera that they no longer source their signatures from a 3rd party. Hoping that is the case.

I know that Futera were using Redkempy as a 3rd party in the past to source out player signature cards. I heard that they had a falling out and Redkempy kept the signed cards for himself and sold them off. Remember the Futera signature cards with the blank white backs? Well they were all in his possession and sold off by him. If you look at the signatures on those cards they are quite decent and much better than the following year’s releases. So who ever Futera used next was Shithouse and really damaged Futera’s already dodgy reputation.

I can provide clear examples of how cards from 2004-2008 have better signatures from the players than the newer 2010-2013 releases. I have never had any problems authenticating signatures from the 2004-2008 releases as the signature is the same as memorabilia signed by that player.

I’m not sure if this has anything to do with the 3rd party but my view has been that players were not as aware in the earlier years as to what their autographs were being used for (making them into 1of1 auto cards). Since the 2008 release player signatures have started to vary and more and more shorthand autographs started showing up. The 2008 release was the first to feature autograph cards numbered to 50 (previously it was only 1of1’s), can you imagine a player signing 50 blank cards for free? No wonder they look awful, crooked and dodgy.

Here are examples of shorthand and full signatures of players:

Have a look at the Gerrard's and the Cahill's, nice reading on how Arteta sometimes just does random scribbles as his signature.

Re: Giusseppe Rossi, with last year’s release something different was used, clear (acetate card) and the actual card. So the clear card was signed by the player and then stuck onto to actual card. We should ask Giusseppe Rossi if he recalls signing clear (acetate) cards? This is my only explanation because why would they forge 50 of Giusseppe Rossi’s signatures? Unless the 3rd party signed them all for Guisseppe lol. I don’t think I have seen a decent RVP signature card by Futera. And as for the Wright auto, if the great man said he didn’t sign it then I doubt he did (don’t forget he would have been handed a blank white card and could have quickly scribbled anything).

rishgoon Hey on the other forum wasn’t there a comment about how Icons (Ibex) (Icons who are behind the Messi card collection) were accused of faking signature cards of previous releases?

Futera’s business practices were quite questionable while they operated in Australia, the same people went over to the England and started Futera UK……. A leopard doesn’t change its spots. It has changed hands of ownership a few times over the past decade and now resides in U.A.E. I doubt you would want to be charged for forgery in that country!

Nice write up BoondasH1. I always wondered why RedKempy had such a large Futera haul.
I don't recall reading anything about Icons, if you have a link let us know. I've contacted the famous Arsenal to see if those players had signed recently, bit of a long shot but will see how I go.
Also on the other forum, guy has posted that a big Podolski collector he knows is claiming the new Futera Podolski autos are fakes. Really hope that isn't the case.

Maybe it's best if we stay away from these cards then? I would love to chase some Arsenal autos but they even all look the same (sharpy, style of signature, placement of signature on card, the same weight on the signature etc etc).

i wont be able to help myself with one or two but i wont be getting as many this as i first wanted too

PM sent about the Icons allegation, it was a comment on a thread and not a thread about it, sorry for the mistake.

That's a great idea asking the players if they recall signing these cards, at least this way we should have a better idea of what is going on. That's not good news about the Podolski's, lets hope for the sake of the hobby it's not true.

So @BoondasH1 are you saying the players are no getting paid for signing? Are these guys paying licensing fees to anyone?

From what I have gathered and led to believe; no the players are/ were not payed. Now there's nothing stopping a 3rd party from having a player do a singing session and getting them to sign a few cards for them while they are there.

I haven't really looked into their licensing but I do know they use pictures of the players in their International jersey's and casual clothes to avoid having to pay for licensing from their clubs.
