ESP NRL Traders 2013 Sneak Peak UPDATED WITH NEW IMAGE

as with Select Champions, all last seasons pictures, but to use the same image, bunch of jerks

Have you ever considered they might only be licensed to use certain pictures, hence the reuse. ESP I would imagine would have to operate under the same restrictions Select had; such as being told what pictures to use.

I would imagine Select would have to purchase the pictures off the photographer. In doing this I would have thought that Select would have paperwork in place which signed over all rights to the images. We may have to look at the photos more closely... Maybe it is the very next frame of a series of continuous shots.

I recall in a previous thread on this subject that the NRL told Select which players and/or shots to use.

I know the NRL have to approve it all. But surely there is more than 1 useable shot of Danny Buderis and Luke Bailey (Just to name 2) out there that they could have used. Why in hell would they want to use something that another company has already used. They must have the opinion that if they do as good as Select, then thats good enough. I personally would want to distance myself from anything that had been previously done, and that would include the use of fresh photos.

i hate to say it but im going to agree with tak on this one ahaha

i think what he said is right, i remember being told by di that they were give photos.

and even then it would take at least half an hour of pure concentration to cut out that buderus on photoshop, if anyone has had a decent attempt at it.

so i dont really blame select for re using images, as i couldnt imagine rendering 180 base cards + inserts wow. the thought of it makes me cringe

It just gets better and better with this series.

As you all know, I get cards signed by the players..... Therefore I sort alot of my cards out into individual players.....

I found this today, I thought I was seeing things the other day when I was sorting through. I thought I had seen a few of the ESP cards before.... surely not its a new company, new cards..... WRONG!!!!!!!!

Sorry about the photo quality, but this is one example. They aren't even original when it comes to the images they use.

I found yesterday that the Ken sio card from this series is the same picture as the 2012 redeemed predictor Top Try Scorer card...what a joke ...:(

Great idea, thousands of last seasons images and some of last seasons cards rejigged a bit, so NRL only have one image of Danny Buderus and Luke Bailey

maybe they are given the images they can use but surely they are given a choice of each player not just one?

just excuse after excuse being made by us all trying to justify the release, when really we are all pretty much not happy to say the least

really feel for the guys who have got thousands of $s wrapped up in this

No - they are given the image to use by the NRL and that is it. What are ESP supposed to do?

If you really want to send a message to ESP dont buy the product. Im not.

Agreed, that is one way to send the message to ESP for sure, the other way is to engage with them and offer constructive points of view on their product. Any business and I don't care who it is will dismiss destructive and negative comments such as those offered by a few recent members to these forums.

I would rather be part of the solution not the problem. The other day I emailed ESP and gave them a scathing review on certain aspects of their release, everything from designs that, IMHO, worked and didn't work and yes image choice was one of those points. I commented on packaging and thought the vertical packaging of cards could and may have contributed to damages. I offered a two page review on what worked and what didn't, from a collectors point of view; and used some thoughts and comments that had been discussed in these forums.

Not a day and a half later after mine and other collectors comments were acknowledged, we see the checklist fixed and sent to one and all; so companies do listen if the message is clear enough to be heard.

So if you want to help fix the problems then let yourself be heard, write to the company explain what worked and what didn't but do it tactfully and I think we will be surprised what may come back to us, the collector, in terms of quality. But if all you want to do is product bash then just shut up and don't buy the product, or better yet, go back to Select's product and collect AFL.

if there so good at listening to all the problems etc.. why did they just recreate all the problems we had with select. at least select had the designing down pat. bar the retiree's this set is on par terrible.

and at least select had individual numbering even if they did keep the number 1.

ratios were better, communication was still terrible but no way near as bad as this.

and im pretty sure digeze voiced most of this stuff to the representative at the penrith card show. they might try and help out now but its too late, what about the people who have already splashed out cash into it.

as for damaged cards. they aren't made of diamonds there will always be some discrepancies, as long as they are prepared to replace them there shouldnt be an issue.

just my two cents.

Steve Wang aka Cardzone
Hi Aron

Yup I know who he is, I have even been in is shop:eek:

I was questioning why Wangggggy?

Unless it was reference to him not stocking the ESP release? he must have known something :)

Maybe he is not as much of a d*** as we all think he is  or maybe that is going a bit too far

Happy days

Gosh, the new members you refer to are driving me round the bend. Probably just Wangy trolling.

The replicated photos are nothing new, Select did it across sets and so did the tazos. I think you're all dreaming if you expect ESP to track down sets of Dynasty to check they weren't reusing any photos from it - but hopefully they don't reuse any photos from their own releases in future.

I for one have sent them emails before the release of the Traders series and i believe quite a few others did as well, i would like to tell you what there replies were but they didnt reply to a single one.....i asked simple questions like release date, availability, the numbering of the cards etc and just general questions and not one reply.
i have sent one email since the release and in constructive manner, i expressed my views and possible ways to rectify these blunders from happening again just the same as the 95% of the collectors, and guess what still no reply.....

I totally understand what you are saying Dave, but we have the dealers along with the guys who dont have all the $$ who are the ones feeling the most ripped off by the sounds of it all,
the dealer trying make a $ and offering a product that has failed to live up to the hype and the lower income guys just trying to just get his collection the best way he can, but when we try to offer some suggestions/support and get brushed its like a double slap in the face.....its a little hard to be part of the solution if the problem isnt listening so excuse me if my tolerance for their ignorance is wearing a little thin...

When you consider how bad this release has been having them fix some typo's on electronic piece of paper (checklist) doesn't sooth everyone's back pocket,
congrats for being able to get some sort reply from them mate, we may have to convey our questions/requests through you and appoint you their ambassador :)

This isnt a dig at you, its just a view from one of the guys who love collecting their team cards that doesnt have all the $$ to be able to say "oh well" it is still going to cost me to get my team cards and i am going to pay massive overs for a sig card thats not worth a fraction i will end up having to pay for it...

All the best mate :)

The replication of player photos goes right back to the eighties, so definitely not a new thing. However, if we were to replicate past cards, why not a return to action shots. Then as collectors, we have a snapshot in time that can last forever.
