Great video to watch if you want to know the history of the most famous card in the world.

http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=espn:8983686

"The latest film is Holy Grail: The T206 Honus Wagner from Nick and Colin Barnicle. The T206 Honus Wagner is the most famous baseball card in the world. Bought and sold many times over, the copy once owned by Wayne Gretzky has now appreciated to nearly $3 million. But, this gem may have been doctored. From mere speculation, the accusations of alteration have risen all the way to federal indictments. But this is still "just" a baseball card. It is a small square in the tapestry of our national pastime. And, as the art world readily illustrates, it may be that no matter what was done or not done to "The Card," its value really does lie in the eye of the beholder."

Being American and knowing about the card and how its been what all card collectors dream of, as in, the one HIT, this is a nice look on how greed one way or another can dictate the value of a card.

I for one think you should give this the 14 minutes it deserves as its great history on what has become what we are all doing today!

Was not mentioned in the video but Bill Mastro has since pleaded guilty to the FBI charge of trimming the wagner.

Will be interesting to see if PSA now get dragged into this. In my opinion they must have either known or were totally incompetent for grading the card as being undoctored.

Either way its all pretty dirty. Amazing card though.

Finally got to watch it, re booted the PC and all good now, thanks for the link, what an awesome card and yes it was cut, way too perfect.

Havent viewed the video but ive read the book (A must read for card collectors)
From what i remember they claim that the card was cut from an uncut sheet?
And when they found the card originally, it was bigger than the 'standard' size T206 which allowed them the room to trim it..

My question is, was trimming the card that bad if it still retained the dimensions of a standard T206?
(hence probably why PSA never suspected it...)

I guess the bad part is if you spent $2.8 million on buying the card that PSA graded as authentic that they should have graded as being a cut card.

No doubt! I guess PSA had other agendas...

I wonder if theyll give me a PSA 9 for mine....

Superb link Owen, fascinating story with big implications for everyone, especially PSA.

$2.8m for a card is just staggering no matter how you look at it! As they say....only in America

As they say....only in America

HOLD ON... Not to drag this out as the original work that ooneil left for us, but that the hell does ONLY in America have to do with it. I think you forget that when money and collectibles are around, you can find this anywhere. Stop stereotyping as this is not only a wrongful statement, but its not even appropriate.

I am not just saying this because I am an American, I would say this if they said the same thing about anyone. <shakes head>
