ESP NRL Traders 2013 Sneak Peak UPDATED WITH NEW IMAGE

anyone have a clue what the prices will be on these yet

Whatever the prices are we are going to see a big increase in prices for the small businessman to even break even on this release. An average box will net 7 inserts and the parallels, those sort of returns will make it difficult for Digeze and redtorana and any other small businessman to open this product for their customers. It is just not going to be worth their while to open case after case to fill orders as plenty of stock will be left sitting. It goes back to what we were talking about earlier and ESP's perceived intent to drive single card sales out of the market.

If that happens, it will hurt NRL card collecting more than they know.

Here is the guts of an email I just sent to ESP

Found the insert ratio's on the Ikon website and when they surfaced it changed the whole approach to the release by collectors and small businessmen. Buy that I mean it appears that you only get 7 inserts and 36 parallels out of a box if you don't hit a young gun signature in its 1:216 ratio or a Legends signature at 1:2160 ratio. The change in the retirement cards from 1 in 72 packs to 1 in 9 packs has dropped the value of that card dramatically.

A number of people I know who are also small businessman in the card industry and run their registered business from a home office are now worried because their regular cadre of customers who come to these dealers to buy complete sets are now probably going to move on as it will not be worth their while to open stock to supply them. I think the approach to release a product that has the side effect of shutting the small businessman out of the market is a big mistake and will only hurt sales of your product.

The response I received back indicated that it was just as well the take up by the wider retail market has been so strong that we will see how we go. If the current take up remains as strong we will see a sell out by the end of the season.

To me, this only confirms what I thought was the intent to squeeze small sellers out of the market and to reduce the eBay trade on ESP Rugby League cards.

Well ESP are pretty arrogant if they think that they are going to be able to control the market and how people do and dont buy cards, especially when it comes to the secondary market.

Its naive of them to think otherwise.

Limited Edition was pretty well supported at a retailer level until a ton of it came back to them which they are now stuck with!

I would have thought the failure of Limited Edition would have been a wake up call. They must have lost a truckload of cash on it.

Wow -the removal of the 1:72 insert is a kick in the balls (though I'd certainly rather four cards of retired players than shots of jumpers). For small box buyers the 1 in 2 box or 3 box insert usually determines the purchase is solid or a bust. By removing it and ensuring a 7 insert box for all but the lucky few, does some damage. I've always believed you do pay a price for the thrill of a box break, but it looks like being a premium for NRL Traders.

The one thing I do like about the Young Guns being so rare is the potential for the players' ability/improvement to drive values. Aside from the Benjis, Slaters and couple others, pretty much all Future Force/Top Prospect cards were in the $20-$40 value. Made it pretty boring.
With the Traders, I reckon there's more potential for values to climb or tumble depending on player's popularity/stature in the game.

Has anyone had any word on whether either the Traders or Power Play will be sold in NZ?

Seems to have been a lot of misinformation about this release posted on this site and the Ikon site. Already regretting my purchase.

Anybody know if the case cards are numbered.
I Think i asked this Question in a previous thread but seeing this thread has like a million pages i could not find it.

I'm quickly loosing enthusiasm for this release. 7 low end inserts in a box for $120 doesn't excite me.

The retirement cards on the sell sheet have the Storm logo in colour and the Eels logo in gold foil, shouldn't it be blue??

I posted up a scan of the front/back of a Case Card yesterday...it wasn't numbered, just CC 1/2 and CC 2/2

Arrogant to the extent that they refuse to consider that many people (long term card collectors inclusive) will just stop buying their product.
They will hope to rely on the kids market, but if they pump out multiple sets in quick succession, parents are going to say "enough is enough" and they'll lose out there as well.
Good luck.

Can def see collectors boycot ESP, just need to hope the kidlets DONT keep em afloat, surely a successful buiness would be doing their reseach and following sites like these, if not, they wont survive. Im keen to see select revived in 2014
