Who here has heard the latest racial taunt by the South Africans ? It was onthe Fox Sports News today.

DISGUSTING !

This from the side who complained about the racial taunts they received when touring Australia last year - Bloody Hypocrites ! [-X

To be honest I don't really want to repeat it here Matty but the colour black was mentioned along with many swear words and the statement that they should go back to the zoo !!! AB made comments about it and said it was worse than the black #### statement that boof got 3 games for !

I don't know who said it but Bouchers was suspected !

Well considering the South Africans were offend by being called "kaffir boetie" which basically means "brothers of blacks", they obviously have not much love for there black countrymen.

I would be interesting to know exactly what was said, as South Africa has 2 black players (Ntini and Ashwell Prince, who actually a Cape Coloured, now thats not a racist term) as well Hashim Amla, who is of South African Indian descent, as well as the white players, who are usually of Afrikaans and/or English descent.

Interesting to see what happens, as Dr Ali Bacher has been quoted as saying he wants lifetime bans for fans caught racially abusing people...

I'll tell u.
It was Gibbs - banned for 2 games for saying something like "bunch of f6Z%$ing animals - belong in a zoo" Not good. the word black wasn't used - they played it on NZ tv last night. Still sounded awful.
They had been coping it from Paki fans on the fence - 2 of the fans were ejected. I wouldn't get too high and mighty. Australian sportsmen, fans have a shocking record for this sort of crap. Lehman, Justin Harrison, Dean Jones. I think one racist comment is as bad as another.....

It is obviously that Herschelle's comments wasn't a blip but a very big dig at the pakistanis. Gibbs is definitely a racist if he said that. Only two matches for that?? I am surprised.

I'm sorry but I disagree, calling someone hyenas is not racist... callign someone animals is not racist. I was ready to jump down the throats of the South Africans for being hypocrites, but when i heard what was said it wasn't racist. Wasn't nice, but was not racist... so you know... stop buying into media hype guys!

Oh, Herschelle Gibbs.

If your looking for a international cricketer to take over Warnie's role as "village idiot", this guy was already challenging him for the role, and seems to be stepping it up a notch since Warnie's retirement; maybe he thinks Shoaib Akhtar is getting close.

I think the reason people have jumped on it is South Africa's long history of racial discrimination; just before they were expelled from the ICC in 1970, they refused to play any test nations apart from Australia, New Zealand and England, as playing the almost exclusively black West Indies, and Asian nations Pakistan and India was beneath them. More recently, those racial taunts in Perth, were supposedly made mainly by former South Africans.

Personally, I think Gibbs is just an idiot; someone whose brillance on the field, not only with the bat, but also as one of the best fielders in the world, is sometimes overshadowed by his lack of thought of what he says and does at times...

I completely disagree with you there wolvesjr34.
Referring to a person as an animal because of their race is racist.

Did he mention their colour? Would we be having this argument if he said it to a white guy? Oh thats right yes, because Gibbs has African blood in him....

Did he say anything about them being pakistani or islamic pigs/animals/hyenas whatever? HE JUST CALLED THEM ANIMALS!

No different to you or I calling an AFL ump a mongrel (which you know is a dog of no real breed) - does that make us racist? I know for one I have no racist intentions....

If people were outraged because he was saying taunts and being over aggressive then fine I'd cop that, to accuse of racism is bull dust!

I am with AJ on this one gents. There was no colour mentioned. Calling someone an animal is just name calling....similar to calling someone a F*ckhead etc.

Good point.....

Also, in that case was Dean Jones calling SA beard wearing muslim dude Hasim Amla a terrorist racist??

I'm sure we all agree what Gibbs said was very dodgy though and he needed a rest to think again....

Looks like we will have to agree to disagree on this one. ;)

Did he mention their colour?
I do not think that a comment needs to mention colour in order to be racist.
In my opinion, Gibbs' comments were racist because his remarks referred to persons of a specific race as being animals.
Pakistan had lodged an official complaint with Broad after Gibbs was heard saying "a bunch of bloody animals" among other offensive comments.

Just because Gibbs didn't refer to the persons by their colour doesn't mean that his comments were not racist. This is certainly the approach being taken by the Cricket South Africa disciplinary committee.
CSA regards this whole matter in a most serious light and Herschelle will appear before CSA's disciplinary commissioner at the earliest opportunity. This action was taken in terms of the regulations flowing from the International Cricket Council's Anti-Racism Policy

There certainly is plenty of sledging bandied about during cricket matches, but to denigrate a specific race of perople as being animals is not only offensive, it's inappropriate.
It appears that both the Pakistani and South African cricketing bodies agree that Gibbs' comments had racist overtones.
Saleem Altaf, the Pakistan board's director of cricket, said "Sledging is acceptable but if it is tainted with racist comments it is unacceptable. Anyone making racist taunts is liable to be punished under the International Cricket Council Code of Conduct. We have let the manager proactively handle the issue."

This is just Herschelle Gibbs acting like an idiot; acting without thinking, once again.

Regardless of his race, he just doesnt think things through properly... I think he was implying they were hooting, hollering and screaming like animals do in a zoo, rather implying the people were animals...I feel, having seen Herschelle Gibbs track record, it is a misunderstanding, albeit with an highly senstive issue (arent all issues with Pakistan cricket players highly senstive;) ) which has hindered South Africa for years, and probably will for decades to come, because of their unsavory history.

Question, if Hashim Amla had of said it, would it be a problem, cos his is of Asian descent?

ok so if you called some one your own race a pig and some one from another race a pig it autmaticly makes it racisit because there from different race lol pardon me I hate to laugh at that.lol

Yes
Racism is so hilarious. [-X [-X

I couldn't agree more, everyone knows what the comment meant (racist wise) as the whites call the blacks animals a lot in countries like that ! It was a racist comment and was disgusting, especially seeing the SAF cricket team complained about it here in Australia !!!

2 games is fair though as it was two TEST matches which is up to 10 days play !

I only think a comment is racist when their is hatred based purely on the person's race involved.

Gibbs' comment is borderline, but without knowing the tone in which it was delivered it is impossible to make a judgement. Hell my mum tells me I'm an animal that belongs in the zoo every time I leave a mess around the house, doesn't mean she's a racist.

Well I heard it live and I heard the word Black used ! I don't know if the news played the whole 10 minutes as it had been going on for quite a few overs ! either way it proves to me what hypocrites the SAF cricket team are, personally i don't like them and never will !
