I don't know why it's being talked up as an NRL trial ... the Newcastle team was NSW Cup, coached by Rick Stone, and most of the players were from the local Newcastle comp trying to get a NSW Cup contract. So the Knights side was less than NSW Cup standard.

Parra obviously played a lot stronger side, for whatever reason, but if it was a proper trial then Maitua wouldn't have been allowed to play, because he's still suspended.
