Ebay Item - Lost in Post

Naz, it sux, has happended to me as well. Going through the entire process, reading all the fine print everywhere, it says loud and clear for ALL SELLERS, not matter how big or small the package, register it ! This is the only way that PAYPAL will side with the seller, proof ! I agree, it sux that you have to put a claim in, potentially wreck a relationship with a seller but at the end of the day, you have fulfilled your promise as a Ebay buyer by swiftly paying for your items won. By putting in a claim with PAYPAL, the sellers account is frozen from withdrawing funds so you usually find it will be dealt with quickly by the seller.

On "having a good name in the hobby", dont fret about this, you are up there with the most respected mate. You collect for your collection, and not for a quick buck, and in my books this is what a true collector is all about. Sure, we all need to sell at times to make way for other investments or even pay for unforseen events, but at the end of the day, a collector will sit down, share what they have aquired with friends ( just check your own website for this ) and talk with others about the world of collecting. A seller talks to there friends about how much money they made !!

Fear not, go through the process and good luck ! Hope you can find the cards again because at the end of the day, if they are hard to get, then the journey of sourcing starts again !!

Thanks Damian ... you've put things into perspective for me. It was the reputation side of things and the spoilt relationship that I was most concerned about, but I've done nothing wrong. It's just unfortunate that this has happened. I'm still hoping against hope that the items just turn up somehow. I guess I'll find out soon enough :)

When i have sold cards worth over $100 to 1 buyer, i have paid registered post at my cost!

I reckon they will turn up!

When any 1 buys of ebay it states what the postage charge would be and the type of postage..eg standard or registered
correct ??

read the 1st post
I did....maybe im missing something..lololo
Okay so he hasnt opted for registered post....the seller based on previous sales has sent the cards
I would have thought that the buyer takes the risk and if they go missing well...so be it.

Not quite ... each other time I paid $2 postage - this time I was charged $6 - and assumed it was registered. Yes ... my mistake for assuming ... hence the indecision on what to do ... wear the loss or make a claim!

Well, no show today either and Australia Post have also done all they could ...

======================================
The ordinary parcel service is an economical way of getting your parcels from point A to B. These parcels do not have a barcode or tracking number for scanning. It is because of this, we are unable to track their movements through the postal system.

If we cannot deliver the parcel to the address listed we will return the item to sender, or if no sender details are present it would be taken to our Returned Mail Centre (RMRC). Staff at the RMRC will then attempt to reunite these parcels with their owners.

I have thoroughly searched the RMRC database and unfortunately, have not been able to locate a match for you. Due to the limitations of the service that has been chosen, there are no further steps that we can take to locate your parcel.

I hope that this information has helped and you enjoy the rest of your day. If there is anything else that we can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

I guess the next step will be to wait until the end of this week and put in a paypal claim unless I can work something out with the seller. Really really really sucks!!!!

Or you can ask the Returned Mail Centre when they have their auction of lost items, attend that and claim the item back if you see it.

I was reading about these auctions yesterday and if an item can be identified on the day it is removed from the auction.

Hi Naz, sorry to hear about your situation.
I sold some cards to someone and sent them on November 3rd and the buyer didn't get the cards until the 10th of December and the item was only going about 40km from Epping to Chelsea in Melbourne.
I'm sure they will turn up Australia Post can be a bit slow sometimes for whatever reason but good luck with trying to work something out with the seller.

The seller has advised that he has also filed a claim and been advised by Australia Post that it takes 15+ days for the items to end up at the Returned Mail Centre, so has asked me to remind him end of the month. At least some ownership is now being taken by the seller - so a step in the right direction.
