With the all star weekend about a month or so away I thought id start a thread and say how unhappy I have been with it over the past couple of years.

I hate to say it but I had the most fun last year watching the 3 point shoot out then I did with any other event, the dunk comp is becoming boring its the same old dunks just with a different jersey on or a little song and dance before the attempt. The skills challenge they dont seem to even care anymore which seems to be the same with the all star game as well.

So after my little rant the question is what can the NBA do to make this all star weekend better?
 
yeah, its all become a bit tame. agreed that the highlight for me these days is the shoot-out.
dont know how they could make it better tho? its more the attitude of the players than anything else i think. the format hasnt really changed in 30 years and they used to be great weekends, so i blame the current players.
fan voting should stop.

agreed on the fan voting, good players get snubbed because of the voting, like when players have played all of 10 games in the season and get voted into the all star team

Nothing... Apart from getting rid of the Slam Dunk contest and the 3-point contest.

Look at the Slam Dunk contest, it's been going for 36 years. There are no new dunks to see, just old ones slightly fancier.

The 3-point contest is a 3-point contest. Simple.

I thoroughly enjoy the skills challenge. So I vote we leave that haha.
 
eg. linsanity. no offense to the guy, but being an all star used to mean you were the top player for that position for your side of the country. hes got a real shot to beat out CP3 this year. ridiculous.

at least the 3pt shoot-out is a true test of ability (of sorts). the slam dunk show is just a popularity contest. and like you say, they ran out of ideas 20 years ago...
 
They absolutely need something new and i think the nba even realises that, the last good all star weekend that i actually enjoyed was the one in denver!!!

All good things happen in Denver ;)

Perhaps a Crossover contest? We have to PG's in the league that are pretty skilled. Or even a H-O-R-S-E contest.
 
Bring back the H.O.R.S.E challenge, that WAS fun, I thought! Re: the Dunk Comp, there's really only SO many dunks that can be done, before they start repeating them. Bring back the days when they had 6 or 8 players in there, make it a worthwhile event. Invite all the best leapers in the game (NO Nate Robinson tho), don't settle for 2nd best "dunkers".

Perhaps, instead of the Shooting Stars or whatever they are, mix it up and have them play 3 on 3 half court, first to 21 or something.

Have the Mascots do a trampett-styled dunk comp or something too. We all know how they go at half times, etc.
 
This is the first year i have the league pass...do we get the three point contest, dunk contests etc. as well as the game?
