Sonics on the way back?

Hooray!
Would love to see them go retro straight away and bring back the Jerseys of early 90s (before their finals appearance against the bulls)
Yeah their 95-96 jersey was the shiz.

The guys looking to buy out SAC have said from the get go whatever team they buy will be named the Seattle Supersonics and wear the green and yellow. Still not sure how close it is to actually happening though as the Malouffs seem to be selling 3 times a year these days. "oh we're going to sell, actually we're not going to sell now" repeat every 3 to 6 months

they will end up selling, they are said to be losing quite a bit of money lately

I am really torn on this one. Whilst I love the idea of there being a Sonics team back in Seattle, I am also fond of the Sacramento Kings organisation and whilst they didnt exactly run the club in the most professional way, they certainly did have some of the best, most supportive fans in the league, so from my viewpoint there are definitely going to be losers in this situation (being the Sac-town fans) and actually love the idea of CWebb and Mayor KJ somehow managing to buy-out the Maloofs and keep the Kings in Sacramento, though it appears that this may now be wishful thinking.

sonics were my all time favourite team before okc stole them so have been psyched for them to come backbut would hate to steal the kings away because we'd be just as bad as okc then...
The difference here is the buyers are being up front about their intentions of moving the team to seattle. The okc move was shady as F.

Just another case of the NBA having zero loyalty to a fan base. American sports at its best.
It's nothing to do with the NBA. The current Sacramento based owners can't afford to keep the team so a group of Seattle based guys want to buy it.

It's up to the new owners to be loyal to the Sacramento fan base, not the NBA.

It'd be different if the NBA owned every team. But each team is a franchise and it's completely the owners prerogative to move the team if they want.

Doesn't the NBA have to approve all sales? And anyway I meant the sport in general. All about money and nothing else.

They do approve the sales and the moves but if they denied the sales they'd lose money as they would if they denied the moves.

You're right, at the end of the day it is all money-driven but at the end of the day it's a business and every business is money-driven

How do teams expect to make money if they never show loyalty to the fans? Liverpool football club was losing money hand over foot but they never talked of moving to London. Now they are starting to make money again.

How do teams expect fans to remain loyal when they are continually terrible and to nothing to fix it. When was the last time Sacramento had a winning season?

It was 2005-06, looking at it from a business perspective, you cannot run a business terribly for 7 years and not expect to lose money.

If people only wanna be fair weather fans the they dont deserve a winning team.

Then that goes back to the loyalty of the fans. No fans, no money.

All in all, it's not to do with NBA's loyalty to the fans. Fans need to be loyal to the team.

Look at Denver for example, Denver has been in Denver since 1967 and has NEVER won a championship. But I've been to Denver and they are some of the most loyal fans I've seen.

yeah I know what u mean I dunno but to me it'd still feel wrong probaly cus I got a soft spot for the kings as they have always been one of my other fav teams aswell but at the end of the day getting a team back in seattle would be the news of the decade for sports! :D

OKC have never embraced the Sonics history as their own, so I doubt they would have a problem with Seattle taking the name and history back. The main point of buying the Sonics and moving them to OKC was get get a team there, which they've done, and done well, so I think if the sale does go through, we'll see the Sonics back on the court :)
