Have You Ever Been Robbed?

Sorry to hear that James :(, i agree with the others that maybe you should change your job

Our house has got robbed twice (2 Different houses though - Renting)

1st one wasn't anything big, they took a couple of phones, they went through mums jewellery but took nothing which was dumb because they were real lol.

2nd one, they literally took my whole room with them (xbox, tv, etc.) and they also took other stuff from the house. But the worse thing is my mum had just finished worked and had come home, she realised there was a car so she got down and than saw the 3 guys, who started running towards so she ran straight back into the car and had to drive away otherwise they would have reversed into the car. Well they still haven't caught them yet :(

just a reflection off the piss poor woe is me society we live in .i live in a small country town and there has been several hold ups and robberies in the last 2 months.they need to bring back the old days were police were respected not a joke like today .having grown up through the 80,s and 90,s i think we respected our elders etc more and wouldn,t have done half the stuff kids do today

Spot on. There is very little respect in today's society for figures of authority and other people in general. The court system has become so weak Magistrates & judges often end up making excuses for criminals so they can avoid jail time. Whatever happened to taking responsibility for your actions?

Can't say i respect the police force too much having come across many a dickhead policeman in my time. Even had one guy yelling at my wife and threatening to arrest her when they pulled her over for a random rbt when all she asked was how to use the device properly as she is from Japan and wasn't familiar with it. They also haven't been helpful at all when i have needed their assitance before. I know they aren't all like that and some are wonderful people but it really seems like an awful lot are dickheads.

Another thing i hate which is bullshit and i saw again last night is police getting free coffee and food at places they stop at. If it was me working i would say nope you pay like everyone else. Why don't nurses or paramedics get free stuff for the wonderful jobs they do too? I'd be more likely to give them free stuff actually as they aren't some wanker on a powertrip.

I think people breaking in and stealing things are being more disrespectful to the people living there because they more than likely have never met them and have no reason to disrespect them. And i find that to be disgusting.

In every occupation there are wan**rs and di*kheads but police are always remembered when someone has a bad experience with them. Policing is a very difficult and trying job but that is not an excuse to be rude and abusive toward the public.

I think you will find that Police get discounted food and coffee because the businesses like having Police presence, it is a proven method of preventing offended occurring. Take McDonald's for example, they offer police discounts and receive cheaper insurance premiums, how often do you see a Macca's being held up?

In QLD ambo's, firefighters and other medical / emergency staff generally receive the same discount afforded to Police.

I used to work in a video shop in just about the worst neighborhood in Newcastle and got robbed a couple times. Worst one was when a druggie held a knife to the throat of one of the girls working but your situation sounds pretty hardcore Jaames.

Had a couple armed holdup when i worked at CBA but they never got past the security shield and just ran away before being quickly apprehended by the cops.

While i was at CBA there were some guys that walked into a branch in Sydney in Chubb uniforms. The staff let them in and handed them over $250,000 in cash thinking they were the real thing. They had to change the policy to make staff actually look for the Chubb van when they showed up to a branch.

Sorry to hear James, hearing stuff like this makes me so mad.

In most cases, people that do this are just low life scumbag drug addicts looking for their next hit.

On a road trip we stopped overnight in Townsville, and whilst we were sleeping in the camper van we got robbed. The windows were left down a little bit for air and in desperation they managed to unlock the passenger door and take my friends bag out. Emptied out her purse which only had $50 in it, took a phone and a camera.

I had a folder of cards which had alot of misc signatures in it but they didnt touch that .. thankfully.

Then we got woken up when we heard running and it was actually a copper running after the person but didn't catch them. Luckily again he dropped the camera whilst running away.

Coppers did sweet FA after this, I actually walked around asking questions from neighbours and other campers. There was a hat that the robber dropped which the police missed so had to ring them and they came down AGAIN to pick it up. Also they said this was the 10th time there was a robbery in the last 6 weeks !!!!

This is why coppers and law enforcement get very little respect cause they are out catching the wrong people. Sitting there with radar guns and doing other revenue raising tactics instead of cleaning up the scum.

If you continue to work at this bottle shop get a baseball bat like the others have suggested. If it happens again you can take comfort you have some way of defending yourself.

Sorry to hear the story Jaames having been involved in a few robberries I can tell you it takes time but you will regain your confidence........I would not recommend defending your place of employment in a robbery as said before they are covered by insurance however defending yourself is whole a differrent story. Give them what they want and then take as much time off as you need at the businesses expense.

My first day working in a bank, straight out of school, two guys came into the branch with shotguns and blasted a couple of rounds into the roof almost directly above where I was sitting............

Hey Brendan you may be surprised to learn that McDonalds are one of the most frequently robbed businesses in Australia..........staffed by kids and open 24 hours makes them an attractive target.

Totally disagree with the above statement about respecting the police force.

In regards to the original post, i feel for you. Work should definetly have counseling set up for you and you should be getting paid until you are cleared to work again. You should not have to feel stress and nerves in your own home.

Having worked at Maccas in my younger days, 3x we were robbed. Always at knife point, one time the guy slashed my hand leaving me with a nasty scar along the underside of my right hand. He went for me because he wanted my wallet as well and I told him to "Go FooK yourself." Dumb move perhaps, but it's things i've earned and he has no right to them. I am willing to go down fighting if they want my personal possesions. Work's money/goods on the other hand, i'll smile and bag it for them.

I wasn't aware of the actual stats but happy to stand corrected. I am not really aware of many McDonalds Restaurants in my area (Brisbane Southside) that have been held up compared to 'softer' targets such as convenience stores, video shops, service stations and liquor stores. The point I was really trying to get across was that Police (and other emergency staff) get offered a discount on food and coffee by many places to increase their presence and as a sign of appreciation for the tough job.

I think one thing we can all agree on however is that anyone who has to cover their face and hands, arm themselves and then storm into a shop while armed, screaming threats and violence toward some poor 17 year old are extremely cowardly and deserve to be locked away for multiple years. In QLD armed robbery carries a maximum punishment of 14 years but more often than not an offender is lucky to get one year in jail.

Sorry to hear Harsha! Hope number 2 wasn't recent! :(

Sorry to hear what happened Jaames. I would prob recommend some sort of couselling so this doesn't build up into a bigger problem for you. My bro was held up in a fast food joint as maybe a 15 year old. He and other staff were locked in the cool room while the manager was forcibly taken to open the safe. I believe the counselling helped.
In terms of arming yourself with a bat etc, I wouldn't. As someone mentioned, insurance should be in place. I personally would love to belt the crap out of an offender, but having months and years of court battles if you seriously injured, disabled or killed them is just not worth it. Does anyone remmber a Chubb van getting held up and they beat and knocked out the female officer. She came to then shot and killed the guy. Most had no remorse for the crim BUT she endured all sorts of financial and psychological damage in the court cases. Common sense prevailed and she got off BUT it was not worth it.

It's a horrible thing to deal with being robbed, cause you feel very invaded. When I was in my mid teens, someone I considered a very close mate broke into our house and stole some small things. Obviously being robbed was terrible, but the feeling of betrayal from a close friend was much worse.
