Why is this place dead?

Sounds like a great idea. Me personally, just don't have the cash or time anymore to be on here as much. What's got me worried is no cherry, no A1, not much from whodat, Mr pap comes on a fair bit. These guys are our Australian retailers. Either they have gone to ebay, have their own websites or are annoyed with people on here for various reasons. Collecting a scrub and having 90% of his produced cards really means it's hard to find the will to come on here because A. People don't have any cards of him that I don't already have. B. I think people get sick of looking and my wanted thread, hence why I started collecting patty mills.

Any who I don't even know what I'm talking about. But I can tell you there are still some bad eggs in this place. Not just low ballers but people trying to gain trust under false pretenses and I blame it all on guru.

I'm on Ozcards every day, and post every now and then. I like basketball and have a fair collection of cards, but I'm not a massive fan like a lot of you fellas. I mainly collect Soccer, but compared to the likes of basketball, there is minimal new product for me to collect each year, which has had my passion for the hobby dipping a bit of late. During AFL season I pick up a few footy cards, but in the offseason, I'm not that interested.

There have been a few knobs of late ripping people off, which can discourage other collectors, for the most part still think Ozcards is a great site.
From the outside looking in, and I do read a fair few of the basketball threads, it seems like there is a fair bit of traffic still. A lot more than in the Soccer forums anyway ! :yellow:

This thread alone is evidence of a lot of great characters, with a lot of great banter.

i remember when i first joined I was on here a lot and looking to make deals, but without the funds i had about 6 months ago i find it harder to get excited, with not much money to buy boxes to bust (which is great fun) i find that I dont come on here as much as i dont have anything to trade to people, therefore cant make a deal with any dwade cards that may pop up anyway,

I still go through phases though i think i went a couple weeks barely checking the page but lately ive been on looking around more and more, hopefully with plenty of work over chrissy holidays ill be able to make some purchases :D

This might sound stupid but a bit of a random thought.
I know I have around 50 cards ranging in value from maybe $1-$50 that I'm only ever really going to use as tradebait.
Do you guys think we would get enough members on board to try a bit of a pay it forward idea.

We set up a list with everyone's PC player/s and addresses (Maybe in the premium members area to keep details private)
Everyone can send cards to whoever they want.
Once you send a card let whoever runs the thread know and they can add to a tally besides that persons name.
Then we can see how many tally marks as a community we can get and build up some people's players PCs with cards that otherwise would of sat in our buckets never to be traded.

Would remind everyone how great the community is PLUS bring back the excitement of having letter boxes full again ;)
Imagine seeing one of the younger members who might still get the thrill out of a game used card (wish I still had that :( ) if we could as a community send them 20 of their PC player.

Bit of a general thought and may not be practical, but it's something we may be able to build on. No harm in sharing :)

We are pretty much doing that with Do a Good Deed #2 thread although it requires a little bit more research to ensure you have the right PC for a person lol

How about a Secret Santa? Not sure if it's being done here, but one of my other forums its really popular..

I'm sure everyone would know the basic concept.. but:

Everyone provides the mod with their addresses and a want list with easy to obtain items..
Something which can be found on eBay with relative ease..
The mods then use a randomizer to generate the match ups.
The general rule for the other forum is $15-$50.. This is a site for gaming memorabilia though, so it would be different with obviously be different here..
This could be at the mods discretion. (Perhaps go on book value $20-$30?)
I suppose its similar to the 'Do a Good Deed' section, but this is essentially a sign-up and then it becomes mandatory..
It could be limited to OZCT supporters only to ensure everyone is trustworthy and abides by the rules.
Then everyone posts pictures of their mail days on a particular day!
It's always nice to see what everyone got and someone always ends up surprising the others by going over the top!

It generally gets the community talking on the site. In fact a few inactive members come out of hiding!
Gives everyone something to talk about and look forward to, especially with Christmas around the corner..

...As I said not sure if it gets run on here (correct me if it is), but on my other forum it's very successful and everyone is always really happy! :)

yeah it gets a bit hard tho.. because I only collect rose.. it be hard.. no one wants to give up rose cards for free.. so it would work for some people.. not all.. but I'm happy to contribute. ;)

That's the thing though, if everyone is getting the same value it won't matter to much
It's meant to be a present anyway, the person is meant to enjoy it
So for a Rose collector you may only get one or two gu.
Where a collector of Andy Rautins could get a few autos
I know a lot of guys wouldn't want to give up Rose and MJ etc. but hey, they signed up for it.. So they can just suck it up ;)
In the end it's simply giving someone PC and gaining equal/similar value in your own PC.
Lots of people may have to purchase the cards off eBay anyway as they don't have anything their member is after..

Just an idea though :)

Have a look through some old threads. Mike (mandcperth) ran a Christmas in July similar to this. Was a good idea I think!

maybe you could start collecting Marquis Teague, he's already proving he can wear a suit and warm the crap out of a bench!!

Yeah I'm on my iPhone so it's hard to navigate.. but its a great concept.
... and my idea is better because it's actually Christmas not July.. pfft :p

All in all, everyone signs up for it - so no one does it unwillingly, and everyone gets something they like.
I think it could extend to all of OCT too - so the basketball, AFL, soccer, cricket, NFL guys could mingle a bit more :)
I know this might create problems as NFL and Soccer cards are less available here.. but it also has its positives
It might create some new friendships as most of the current trades are with the same people..

Otherwise you could just have different sections - NBA Secret Santa.. but I say we should get the whole community involved!

Those who don't want to do it don't have to, but I think in general majority of the members on here are great guys and willing to give some to get some, even though there are no specifics of the trade.. and they may actually lose out in resale value!!

To answer the original thread question, for me there doesn't seem to be much interest in buy/swap/sell anymore, so kinda don't see the sense in doing up a sale thread with a heap of pics, prices and info and then not get a response, when I could just ship all non pc cards to COMC... They do all the hard work and store the cards.

Also personally I don't come on here much because I don't like any of the new product and no one busts rookie year stuff of my pc guy so I can basically grab whatever from eBay or COMC. I do come on here and check out the discussion threads when there updated tho!

without having written the pay it forward in the thread, that's the way you'd hope it would work!

Just personally, i have gone off the hobby a little bit. There is all this talk about low-balling, but honestly i see more cards listed WAY higher than what they should be and i got sick of trying to negotiate a decent price. Even on ebay, i dont bother anymore because there are so many nice cards listed for a astronomical price, and yet when the listing ends the owners relist for the same price... over and over and over.

Not to mention how abhorent i find Panini's products....

And all the shill bidding going on....

And all the fake patches....

And the ? about is UD/Panini using real GU....

And really, it's just getting too expensive.

In saying that i still like to wisecrack in these forums.

Money, knobs, bad deals and just a general change of direction in my life re Sports mainly. Started playing Baseball, spending money on my car again and trying to get rid of some debt quicker, plus my last couple of deals were just way, way to stresssful for no reason apart from people being pain's in the ass!!!! Lost a lot of passion for cards in general too. Still follow the NBA but just haven't had the time or want to be on here as regular as I once was. Might pick up again for me but might not aswell. I always drift in and out during the day, quick checks on my hone if I get bored at work or Im on my lunch break, even at night just on here quickly a couple of times... Hardly long enough to post something like this these days! hahah
