Well after watching the Victoria v NSW match I suspected the pitch would be lively for the 1st day and turn into a road (As it did for Victoria). So far it has gone how I thought it would (bar the weather) so I think it was a GOOD toss to lose !

Car'n Aussies

Great 1st Day for Australia & Shane Warne.......couldn't have bee scripted any better......except thos last two wickets of the day :(

What a great day of cricket, and Warnie...need I say more? My boss was actually there today, she flew in from Sydney and I'm so jealous! Well done Warnie, go for another 5-fer in the english second dig!

Go the Vics Equal 1st now :)

Great frist days for the Aussies look like this onew will be over by the 4th day weather providing.

Go the Vics Equal 1st now

go the Queenslanders.
Symo and Haydos both getting 150 and Symo is still batting tomorrow.
What a performance after Australia being 5 for 80 odd. A 270 something partnership.
Australia are virtually unbeatable :o It actually looked like the poms had the Aussies under the ropes and than u get a massive partership at 5 outs and see the aussies double their score lol. those poor poms.
Mahmood was impressive though, but he is one ugly bastard. :)

Hayden and Simmo smashing the Poms are i love cricket :)!!!!!!

5-361

Sensational ! I have always rated Andrew Symonds but not as a Test Cricketer.....he has gone a long way to showing he can be today - I was wrapped for him - Well done QLDers :)

Note - I am a Sandgroper :)

With quality players like Martyn, Warne and McGrath retiring (and possibly a few more), a player like Symonds becomes all the more valuable if he can perform. I'm not suggesting he'll replace those guys...but he will give the team a strong foundation to build on for the future. His bowling is good, his batting is improving and his fielding is sensational!!! Today was very exciting to watch...I haven't seen a century celebrated like that since Gillespie got his 200.=D>

I think Symonds is a naturally talented guy and can inspire but as others have said he is only a bandaid solution, i cant see him as a permanent fixture (he's 31), even gillespie got dropped after his 200. Australia is going to have a big problem in the next few years if it does not blood some young guys soon.

I'm not to woried about the young batsmen that will need to be "blooded"...we have an unlimited supply in that department. Its our bowling stocks I'm worried about...
Spinners - McGill (to old), Hogg (to old - but still a little champion!), the likely choice is Cullen but I really don't rate him, he has only played one test with one wicket...plus his domestic form isn't anything crash hot atm.
Pace - a little better, but you would never fear against a side that contains Clark, Bracken, Tait, Johnson...none of them are really world beaters. But maybe we have just been extremely spoilt with McGrath & Warne...

So everyones opinions of the two to replace McGrath & Warne?
Johnson & Cullen IMHO. But i'm not confident with it :)

No more tests for 10 months after the Ashes so it's going to be whoever perfoms well in this years domestic and i guess whoever goes to the World Cup...

Mark.

Johnson & Beau Casson or even Cameron White !

lol @ England

great effort Australia =D> =D> =D> =D>

I'll second that....

England are just ....well...bad. They should ashamed of themselves, claiming to be the best or 2nd best test side in the world....for shame!!;)

Even without Warne and McGrath i feel we would have won this series comfortably.....Clark has been bowling suberbly, and is would have been my tip for the man of the series. But i think it will go to Warne as a retirement jesture!

as bad as england appear to be playing, in reality we should all just sit back and enjoy every second of what is easily one of the greatest test teams of all time. i dare say any test team in the world wouldnt be able to take a test off us with our current red hot form.

Even a team of the world's best players weren't able to.:p

Sensational effort today Australia, Stuart Clark is the next McGrath and continued his great form, Lee had his best performance in the series..............Warne & McGrath were their usual best ! I can't help but think Warne has another good Test series or two in him but I support his retirement and will always remember his as one of my favourite cricketers along with D.K Lilliee

Bring on the Sydney Test, I have tickets for day 1 & 2 and hopefully will be able to get tickets for day 3 & 4 off a friend for free :)
