Just thought I would ask the question and see who and what injuries you have had from playing basketball.

I just got my results today from the Orthopedic surgeon after getting an X Ray, CT Scan and MRI on my right knee. :(

I hurt it about a year ago in a game and went to Physio after thinking it wasn't all that bad. They said it was just my knee cap that was dislocating and that it was no biggie. They gave me some exercises to do a special brace to wear while playing, which I couldn't do for about 4 weeks. They said a scan wasn't necessary because it wouldn't change the management.

Then, 2 weeks ago, I 'dislocated my knee cap' again and felt REAL sore this time, and tender/swollen for a few days.

Well, the results today said:

The first time I 'dislocated my knee cap', it was actually a full knee dislocation and a complete ACL tear! This means, that after 4 weeks, I was playing again with no ACL! DeJuan Blair style!

Then, the recent injury, was a full dislocation AGAIN and a tear to the meniscus and MCL :(

Damn hey!

No ball for me, for MONTHS! I am starting the road to recovery tomorrow and booking the surgery to fix it!

Anyway, enough complaining from me, who else has an injury?? Or has anyone else done an ACL?

Man you are a real Blair fan!! I've started up basketball this year and luckily no injuries, saying that feeling so sore these days in the morning (mainly back), need a shower just to walk properly lol

yeah both of my knees are rubbish!!!! cant walk normal for about 5 days after i play these days, wost one was my back at a state leauge camp for nsw, ended up having surgery and six weeks without sitting, till this day my back is fucked!!! NEVER get back surgery if they say you need it.

Someone isn't warming up/down properly! ;)

BTW - can you pm me your address! I have been meaning to post you something! haha

Adam, I had an knee reco after snapping my acl in 96! It lasted about 5 years before it starting loosening up again. Main issue now is to keep the muscles around the knee strong and flexible. Had an MRI a few months back and alls well. The basketball career stopped not long after the surgery but that had do with busting my ankle again. Good luck with it all mate. I had mine done in the dark ages and hopefully the procedures are getting better and the recovery is quicker!!

Hurt all sorts of things in the last few years, after doing martial arts for years as a youngster my body is finally catching up to me.

When I was in the army, I had pulled half my achilles off the heel, was in pain but corporal's just thought I had strained ankle made me light jog back to my quarters. Did physio and was on a no running chit for a couple of weeks. Then the pain got worse after walking up and down the stairs of my townhouse for a couple more. Finally the physio realised I didnt have an ankle strain as i had lost 30 % movement in my ankle. Off to Royal Darwin hospital I went and scans revealed my achilles was partially torn and tearing away.

So down to Holsworthy barracks I went and say the Commando's foot doctor for not 1 not 2 but 11 injections of cortisone. 4 years later I still get tender and have problems with it.

Broke my right hand ring finger in half while playing ball 2 months back, silly and stubborn me when back on as I thought it was just swollen and caught the ball scored to finish off the game. Two days later when it wasnt settling down I went to the docs, then off to the hospital to realise 6-8 weeks out of ball. Cast for 2weeks, strapped for 2 more.

Haha you should tweet Blair and tell him ur a big fan and you were doing it "Blair Style" too :D

Btw dude.... do you mind if I ask you how much the MRI cost you or if it was covered by some kind of health insurance?

I ask because I have a lot of issues with my lower back and I really would prefer to get an MRI on it but hear they cost a lot of money, my doctor said like $800.

I have heard that loosening issue before, but they said the method was very different. For mine, they are doing a 'graft' tendon from my Hamstring and screw it to the bones. Not sure how different that is to yours?

Hahaha, I might just have to do that! ;)

MRI was $600ish and I just put a Medicare claim in and got back about half of it, so not too bad. I booked on Thursday arvo at Hollywood SKG and got it done 7:00am Friday morning!

Good luck with the back!

5 days after a game??? You only play once a week... So that is 2 good days a week! What are you complaining about? :P haha

And yeah my old lady had surgery to 'fix' her back, but it has been nothing but trouble since!

All my injuries at basketball have been the usually high risk areas, ankles and fingers.

Broke my finger back in high school playing out on the concrete court at lunch...fell to the ground and the hand didn't like taking the weight of the fall. Ended up being a break and a bad dislocation at the same time. At the hospital they had to tie something around my finger and try to pull it back into place...the doctor literally put her foot up against the wall to use leverage to pull.

Had a rough time with ankle injuries playing at uni. One game i did a severe ankle sprain...we only had 5 players. In the second half i felt sorry for my team so i said i'd hop out there and just stand in the middle and stay at the defensive end. A minute later i jumped for a rebound and my good foot landed on another players shoe and i twisted the other ankle...so i had to be dragged off the court.
In another weird twist to the story I ended up stopping at the Drs on the way home and the Dr was apparently a vein specialist. He said he liked the look of the veins in my legs and would appreciate if i came back in next week so he could take photos for his students to see and he would pay me....no, I never went back to that Dr.

had the same surgery. Got a nice chunk of my hammy missing and some nice scars a bolts in my leg. I found out later that I suffer from shermans (i think its spelt schaumanns) in my back which causes you to have issues with your hamstrings. That (tight hamstrings) was always the main issue with my leg. If you are fairly flexible you should be fine. The rehab sucks but after the hospital stay it was great to get out of the house. Try and build up as much strength as you can before the op as it should help you after the surgery. I got back to full speed basketball in 12 months (it can happen as quickly as 6months) and got back into the state league level fairly quickly. Mentally it took a bit longer. once again good luck with it all. Let me know how you go.

Going up for an easy layup, the other teams big bloke took my feet out from under me, landed on my point of my shoulder and the big bastard landed on top of me. Just got it right after a year off with intense physio.
