Derrick Rose expected to be out until March
Posted on July 23, 2012 by Tony Hoops
Reports in May had targeted an early January return for Rose, but March is more consistent with the tentative-12-months prognosis often given to ACL injuries. There’s no way to be sure, though. Rose could bust through rehab and make it back by January. He could have setbacks and miss the entire year. It’s a long and difficult process with steps along the way, but all of them have to go right for him to hit the optimistic end. And updated projection two months later of March is not a good sign.
Rose being out until March would spell doom for the Bulls’ season. They might be able to maintain their pace they did last season, even after losing several key bench contributors, but there’s no way Rose is back to anything close to himself by the time the playoffs roll around in mid-April. That puts the Bulls’ chances at a title in the “not great under any conceivable scenario†category. And without Rose, if things don’t go as swimmingly with the new cast of characters as they did last season, the Bulls could wind up on the outside of the playoffs, a stunning fall from their No.1 seeding in the East 2 yrs in a row
Shooting guard Randy Foye has signed a one-year deal with the Utah Jazz, a source close to Foye said Monday night. ESPN.com
The Bulls on Tuesday officially will announce they have declined to match Omer Asik's three-year, $25.1 million offer sheet from the Rockets, sources said, paving the way for multiple signings that began Monday with Kirk Hinrich. Chicago Tribune
Because the Bulls used a portion of the $5 million midlevel exception for Hinrich and the biannual exception to sign Bellinelli, it's impossible for the Bulls to match even Asik's $5 million starting salary and stay below the hard cap of $74.3 million. They will pay the luxury tax for the first time in franchise history. Chicago Tribune
They are not matching it Norm, and sort of happy they are not! It allows us to replace Watson with Hinrich and Korver with Bellinelli and hopefully add another piece or 2....

ESPN is saying Nets are interested in Kirilenko
A multi-team deal has emerged that could serve to clear cap space for Andrei Kirilenko to return to the NBA with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to a league source.
The potential deal comes amid reports that the Timberwolves are interested in signing the 31-year-old Kirilenko.
In the deal, the Phoenix Suns would send Robin Lopez and Hakim Warrick to New Orleans, and the Suns would get Wesley Johnson and a future first-round pick from Minnesota. The source said New Orleans would trade Brad Miller to the Suns. It's unclear what Minnesota would get from the deal.
New Orleans and Phoenix discussed a similar four-team trade last week, with Boston and Houston replacing Minnesota, but the Suns pulled out as the deal fell apart. That's when the Timberwolves entered the picture.
Earlier Tuesday, ESPN's Marc Stein reported the Brooklyn Nets were pushing hard to bring Kirilenko back to the NBA, despite their own limited salary-cap flexibility. Kirilenko, who spent last season with CSKA Moscow, wants to return to the NBA. Sources said that Team USA guard Deron Williams, Kirilenko's former Utah Jazz teammate, was part of the effort to recruit Kirilenko.
Sport Express in Russia on Tuesday quoted Kirilenko saying: "I want to decide my new team before the Olympics. There are several options in the NBA, but the final choice has not been made yet."
Kirilenko also told Ria Novosti, another media outlet: "Which club in particular, we'll know in a day or two."
^ more on AK. Could actually be going to Minny???

Hard to imagine he retired from NBA at age 31 (or younger?).
Strange that PHX want to part with 2 bigs. Looks like they've thrown last seasons' roster in a tornado and hoped to catch whatever came back out (not much).
The Timberwolves are targeting former NBA All-Star Andrei Kirilenko and are willing to pay the free-agent small forward as much as $9 million per season for at least the next two seasons, league sources said Tuesday. To clear enough cap space to do so, they reportedly plan to trade forward Wes Johnson, their No. 4 overall pick in the 2010 draft. Minneapolis Star-Tribune
really??? i would be keeping Johnson, much younger and alot more upside. AK could be good but for a young team i'd rather keep the young group together.some more
The Bulls are expected to continue to fill out the roster by signing veteran center Nazr Mohammed, 34, to a one-year deal. The Kenwood Academy alumnus was at the Berto Center on Tuesday, but the signing is not yet official. Chicago Tribune
WOOO
If Johnson goes to Phoenix that might work well
Phoenix are starting to build a nice team!
