Well not that alot of members care :) but im going to Trivium's sideshow at the Tivoli in Brisbane aswell as seeing them at this years Big Day Out. I get to see Trivium in 2 successive days what could be better :o
Labelled the next metallica and rightly so, they have come from underground to playing with some massive bands like Metallica and Iron Maiden aswell as playing Ozfest in 2 years. The most skillful band imo touring and creating music at the moment. Their latest album hit the national Billboard at 15 which isnt a bad number for a metal band but their next few releases they will pitch higher i recon.
Recommended songs for those metal heads on the boards:
From each of their releases.
Demo CD
The Storm (AMAZING Guitar picking, skillful solo, catchy chorus) Quite a stunning track for a self releases demo and their first release.
Ember to Inferno
Ember to Inferno - Album Titled Track, fast paced and all thrash. This album is their most brutal release and is only really for the metal lovers.
Ascendancy Their Break Through Album, Album of the Year for a Metal Release to add.
Like Light To The Flies - very Intense verses but aside from that this track is BRILLIANT. A nice sing-a-long chorus and defiantly ONE OF THE BEST SOLOS ive ever heard!!
Rain - Heavy song with a very cool riff that leads in to the chrous, Great drumming with the double kick, Cool chorus aswell. Heavy Heavy track.
Pull Harder on the Strings of the Matyr- You'll love it if you love metal but you wont if you dont ;) Going to be an insane song in the mosh pit, will be fun.
Dying In your Arms - Their 1st radio song. Very cool rock song that is cool to sing a long too. check it out!
A Gunshot to the Head of Trepidation - EXtremely SKILLED dumming from Travis Smith one of if not the best drummer i know of, metal track alot of screaming with melody though lol but the last 3-4 minutes are all guitar, drums and singing. Very catchy chrous, UNREAL solo, great drum sequences.

The Crusade 3rd Album, No screaming what so ever, matured from underground metal to hard rock group. Very skillful guitar and drumming.
Anthem - First Single, catchy chorus, a really cool rock song with creative guitar riffs.
Entrance of the Conflagration - BRILLIANT Track, probally my favourite one on the album, Catchy sing a long song with a very nice solo.
The Crusade - If you want to listen to how skilled these guys are, you just have to listen to this instrumental. Their are few parts to it and it goes for 8 minutes. Best instrumental since To Live is Die from Metallica.
Detonation - Thrashy Track, easy to sing to, FAST! Its a two part track to another Track called Ignition.

I think that will do, im getting carryed away. But well worth the listen, they are the next metallica. If your not a fan of the scream then disregard their first releases and look at the crusade and beyond.

Anyone else going to one of the sideshows or plan to see them at the Big Day Out?
JZA did i leave any songs out?

lucky boy johnno, i havent heard about any side shows for adelaide, ill have to do some checking around (knowing our luck though its a sure bet we'll get jipped as ususal  )

Man, you could list any song from Ascendancy, that is one of the best metal albums of all time, up there with master of puppets and vulgar display of power. Even weaker tracks like drowned and torn asunder or decieved are still sick songs and shit on 90% of the metal out there.

Their early stuff is good, but its too obvious theyre trying to show off their mad skills at the expense of good songwriting. Ascendancy was so ****ing good cos it had awesome songs that still gave them a chance to show off their chops. my particular faves from Ascendancy are:
Rain: just a great opening song (if you disregard that poncy piano song) the first time i heard that opening riff it was like WOOOOOAH, it just grabs you by the balls. then that sick ass riff that comes in at 2:30 i love as well.
Pull Harder...: Very very good song but that solo is what does it for me, its like a perfect metal solo, a bit of everything: pinch harmonics, quick as string skipping, super legato phrasing...bloody hard to play but so fun when you nail it. I mean really, nearly every song on the album has a jaw dropping solo, but this one is just animal.
Ascendancy:Excellent song, but what makes it is that pre-solo bit that kicks in right on 2 minutes and then leads into an awesome awesome solo, you know how good metal just gives you goosebumps, that part does it for me. first time i heard it i was gobsmacked, i spent 3 days straight trying work out that solo and its still my fave solo to play on the whole album. and that little solo/riff that kicks in at 3:03 is sick as well.
Gunshot to the head...Perfect song from start to finish. nuff said.
Declaration:Just an awesome song to finish on. The awesome intro is really happy and inspirational and the just flows seamlessly into one of the sickest riffs in all of metal at 0:20...like a really evil sounding Slayer-esque riff. I still get goosebumps listening to it. awesome solo too. Another song that is soooo fun to play with a band.

Really, i friggin love every song on the album, but these songs are like a firm 10/10, whereas the ones i didnt list are like a 9-9.5/10.

I honestly cannot get into the crusade. the fact that matt stopped the screamo coupled with the fact that the whole album was written in standard tuning, (whereas Ascendancy was written all in Drop-D tuning to get that deeper heavier metal sound) sounds to me like theyre trying to appeal to a broader cross section of fans, rather than writing a kick ass album and **** it if it only sells 500,000 copies. the only thing i can say is that i just dont get that goosebumpy, jaw dropping feeling like when i listen to ascendancy. Dont get me wrong, its very good but not a masterpiece. The only new album that has really rocked my socks off is the new Killswitch album, the new LOG and trivum have been pretty disapointing.

BTW johnno, one of my mates is raving about a band called At The Gates, ive only heard one of their songs (slaughter of the soul) which is pretty bloody good, have you heard any of their stuff?

Ascendancy is a great track aswell, I havent heard much of Declaration suprisingly enough. Youd have to have Like light to the flies in top 5 of the album though, i mean that is a work of genius, i love the film clip too!!
What do you think of The Storm Jza?

As to the Crusade, well some people think its better than ascendancy and some dont. They matured heaps on the album imo and the lyrics on the album are first class, a few of the tracks are about actual events too.
I listened to the album and then again reading the lyrics word by word and i was godsmacked.
I first heard Trivium on Headbangers ball, i had no idea who they were. They played the gunshot video and i was perplexed at how good they were with their instruments. The lead in solo to the chrous and better yet the actal solo is of beauty, and that drumming sequence for the chorus is orgasmic.

As for LOG follow up to Ashes of the Wake , "The Sacrament" i was bitterly dissapointed. It all sounds the same and their is not one song that does it for me on the album. But they put on one of the best live shows ive ever seen and then u got KSE to follow was a memorable night.

The new KSE album OWNS, i cant pick whats better The Crusade or As daylight Dies. I could go track by track with that album too.
My top 5 on the album
Daylight Dies - Saw this song live, and the intro to the song is so majestic and grabs you from the get go. Probally their most darkest track but defiantly a winner.
My Curse - The single, this track is going to have the success The End of Heartache did. They did the same thing with the film clip, replacing all the screaming with Howards amazing voice and its just a top song, such an awesome RIFF.
For You - Classic track, Adam D is one of the best producers in metal imo. I love the lead into the chrous with Justin using the frantic double Kick. Solid track, i just love the vocals too, this album showcases how good of a singer Howard is unlike Heartache.
Desperate Times - WOW, this is something i cant say ive ever heard befour. It is perhaps one of the most depressing songs ive heard but i think it is brilliant. Im not a depressive person :) but i was captivated when i first heard this song, and i could almost feel the pain of people battiling with depression. Not sure what the song is about, but it just lets off that vibe.
The Arms Of Sorrow - It will be the next single i think, Howard's singing makes this song what it is.
i love others like, Reject Yourself, This Is Absolution, Still beats your name but those 5 are some of KSE's best work.

cant say ive heard At The Gates, might have to check them out!
Still need to get Bodom's new dvd, got everything else lol, I got something awesome on the way though a signed album of As Daylight Dies from the band. I took advantage of a pre-order and im getting a signed Daylight copy. Ill scan it up when it comes, hope its well signed =P~

JZA - They are only playing BDO in Crow land! Man well worth $120 just to see them imo, i payed that to see tallica. But this year it is a preety solid linup. And ive never been to a BDO, but seen it on V and the Mosh Pits for the metal bands always go off, and after seeing Trivium at Donington i seriously cant wait!!

man you east coast guys get all the fun! not sure if there is a side show for Perth, probably not as usual.....

yer i think their is only 3 sideshows.
Brisvegas, sydney and melbourne as always lol
you could see them at the BDO though Leroy! :)

COOL. And with that post im in the 2000 post club!!!

Leroy i just checked and they are doing 4 HEADLINE shows, and you a lucky one. They are playing in perth at the Monkey Bar. Tickets are like $50, well worth the money!

Thanks Jonno & Jizz!!!

See, I used to breathe the infamous 'Tallica boys.
Still love their stuff (except for St Anger).

Decided to hit up the Torrent Sites, and thanks to TorrentSpy, I got The Crusade today.

You're not far off at all saying their like Metallica. Love their stuff, and only on to Track 2. lol.

If you're looking for an alternative rock style band, please take a recommendation from me, and check out Smile Empty Soul.

Cheers!!!

Listened to and love "This World Can't Tear Us Apart".

Spot on, great stuff band!!!

What's there other stuff like compared to The Crusade?

if you read my lengthy post earlier, i reckon Ascendancy (the album before crusade) is their best and shits all over the crusade. its heavier, more aggressive, better solos and riffs, just better songs all round. its one of the best metal albums of all time. Ascendancy has got more of a pantera vibe, whereas TC is more an homage to their old school roots like metallica, iron maiden etc

great stuff scotty.
Yer this world cant tear us apart is a phat song, probally be their next single.
How goods the instrumental, i love it!

GOT MY TICKET TODAY, TRIVIUM IN 2 SUCCESSIVE DAYS!!!!

Ascendancy - Im not a massive fan of scream singing but i got used to it after hearing it heaps and that album is just pure gold. If you can handle the scream, Ascendancy you will fall in love with, the solos are INSANE!!

Dload Dying in Your Arms though, no scream in that and its off Ascendancy ' it's and even better track than This World Cant Tear us apart.
will have to give a listen to that bad of yours too.

ps. JZA you heard, The Storm?

ps. JZA you heard, The Storm?

If thats a band name, nah never heard of them.

Its funny how you guys talk about the lyrics, to me its all about the music, the lyrics to me are the most unimportant part.

Im not a huge fan of screamo either but its weird, on Ascendancy i thought matt screamed way too much, but when i listen to crusade its like i miss the overuse of screamo. :)

The Storm is a song off Triviums Demo, if you havent heard it download it now, You will fall in love :)

Mavs - yer the film clip is like them live and bakstage and stuff. Good song!!

And with ya point on missing the scremo off ascendancy, i agree with you a little bit. I much perfer Matt singing though, he has a very good rock voice and id perfer listening to him sing and hear the lyrics than him screaming. But i think it worked a treat on Asendancy and i wouldnt change anything on the album for the world, its a different sound and it just adds more to their resume. They have so many good songs across 3 albums and the scary part their still only in their early 20s.

Ah ok yeah, i do have it on the hard drive, didnt realise. Its a pretty good song, its just missing something though. the solo is mad and their skills are amazing (especially Corey, he is an animal guitarist!!!) but their self titled and ETI album are just a slight level below their best IMO.

One of their best older songs i reckon is 'Washing away me in the tides', im not sure what its from, as i dont think its on any of their albums.

Man The Intro to The Storm is Brilliant, just goes to show how good Corey is. That song would be in my top 15 favourite Trivium songs probally 11 :)

Washing Away the Tides was released on an expansion to Asendancy which i own. It has The album plus a few unreleased tracks including Washing Away the Tides and their kick ass cover of Muster of Puppets and a mad dvd also. The song is also in one of the Underworld movies.
