2011/12 Australian Summer Of Cricket (*SPOILERS*)

Sometimes i think Australia are trying to lose, why they keep returning to the embarrassment that is Mitchell Johnson i don't know. Especially when they have James Pattison available, a guy who was intimidating and ripping apart the opposition before he got injured.

Australia no longer has the embarrassment of riches and should be picking the best 12-15 players for at least the ODI and Test squads.

I just don't understand how Starc, Siddle, Harris, Hilfenhaus and Lyon are not in this ODI bowling squad. Surely, a Test match bowler can play 5 ODIs and give good result. It's not that much different, just nothing down the leg side.

Not sure where M Hussey is either; I know Pattinson is injured too. What about Hastings as well?

Wade should be opening. Doherty is NOT a spinner but a medium slow dart thrower, no offence. S Smith...ummm...specialist fielder, spits in his hands?!? Don't know there.

And who thought bringing Mitchell Johnson, who had done SFA for 18 months prior to his injury and has been away for 9 months, and they think his first return match should be against England, in England of all places. Bloody hell!!!

Finally, and no one wants to admit this, England are just BETTER at the moment. Yes, I was just sick in my own mouth, but they are better at the moment. They have 6-8 tall, fast bowlers they rotate when needed and they hunt as a pack. They have the only man in the world who could be smashed in the face with a cinder block and have better teeth AFTER the fact, bowling good spin and they have a fairly handy AND settled batting order. That said, they did lost 0-3 to Pakistan and the West Indies tested them. And it must also be said that it is the MIDDLE of the English summer and the English squad is in full swing. Australia hasn't had a match since the West Indies tour back in March/April and it's the off season.

So whilst I cannot wait for the Ashes, this Mickey Mouse five day series will keep me up for the next few days. Australia is happy to take the money for the matches, surely it is time that the BEST XI is picked and not shoe-horn players in to squads. Seriously, if you're good enough for Tests, you'd pretty much good enough for ODIs (maybe not 20-20's, which I see like Rugby 7's separate from Rugby Union).

On a positive, I am liking Clarkey's captaincy, but he needs to start wearing his selector's hat a little better.

James Pattison is available and in England, Clarke said that they went with Johnson over Pattison and Hilfenhaus due to his strike power  Michael Hussey is missing the tour and possibly more due to the premature birth of his child recently.

Mitchell Johnson lacked the consistency again:thumbsdown:

Have to agree, i don't how he jumped straight back in literally

If Wade opens it probably means Watson at number 3

Should be interesting who plays in the Next Game

1 Thing Australia need to do is post a Higher score

I thought Patto hurt his back in the WI was out for the foreseeable future?
I thought he would have been out too, but he is in the squad and i read an article on cricinfo about him being overlooked for Johnson for the second game. Perhaps he isn't 100%. Either way, there are handful of guys worthy of inclusion before Johnson.

Fair enough about Patto.

As for 'our' X Factor? Should have remained the Ex-Factor!

The best thing that happened to CA was Johnson's toe injury. Seriously...he was the white elephant in the room. They had no reason to ever bring him back unless he took 200 shield wickets this summer. But alas...

And if available, surely Haddin could bat and not keep.

Disappointed. The night actually can sit up all night (with a teething baby) it's rained out.

Still...it rained on their parade. Can't go #1 with a clean sweep without winning 5-0.

Pattinson and Hilfenhaus in for Johnson and Doherty

Going to be nice to see how much Hilfenhaus swings it!

96-6 now

Steve Finn on a Hat-Trick for the 2nd time :(

Australian ODI cricket is becoming a joke. You've got Peter Siddle the best bowler in the country, sitting at Blundstone arena watching North Melbourne play. Where is Mike Hussey aswell????!!!!! All this whilst we were playing Steve "Specilast fielder" Smith and Mitchell Johnson. Urghhhhh. And why are we playing Bailey and Forrest? Both of them have no future in Australian cricket.

Mike Hussey isn't playing due to the premature birth of his child recently. Johnson is not playing today thank god, but no doubt he will be back in soon.
