Official 2012-13 Offseason thread - trades, rumours, etc

Wouldn't have thought you'd be after Roy having Hill, George & Granger

I would have thought that it would be an obvious move since Hill is playing primarily PG, Granger is always playing SF and neither Granger or Paul George are creator's at the SG/SF positions, so Roy would actually fit in perfectly IMO.

Rockets reach agreement on 3-year, $25.1 million offer sheet with Bulls center Omer Asik.

Crazy thing is the deal is split $5M, $5M and then $15M in final season!! wowsers... this offseason already throwing up some suprises - just goes to show with hibbert and now asik that a half decent big man is always in high demand in the nba

Firstly, the reason Asik's deal is loaded like that is to stop Chicago from matching it, as by the 3rd year of Asik's deal the big money of Rose's deal will also be kicking in, putting Bulls in a tight spot.

Secondly, I would have thought that an NBA All Star (Hibbert) would be rated a bit higher than "half decent big man" and the difference in average salary between Asik's ($8M/yr) and Hibbert's ($14.5M/yr) deals confirms that. Not sure Pacers would really want to have to spend this much on Hibbert, but I doubt very much that they'll let him walk either.

the money asik is being offered is just silly... i understand the mechanics of the deal and why rockets would be doing it that way but they would be paying overs by a fair way imo - they obviously see something in him as a young big

not too sure about your hibbert comments though - clearly he is a much better player than osik, that is obvious, but for the pacers to pay him max money under this current CBA isn't wise, he isnt that good - if i am the pacers i dont want him to walk clearly as he is a valuable part of that team but at max money he isnt worth keeping, he is realistically a $10M-$12M guy in my humble opinion... i'd let someone else take the financial burden... they have been very financially discilplined in the recent bird era in building this current team and it would be a shame to see that unravel

we have seen other teams pay max to other players eg iguodala and they simply arent worth it - teams should build like spurs and thunder and only pay guys max that are clearly worth it...

Centre's have long been overpaid, that is simply the way it is due to the fact that there are so few of them that play the Centre role effectively. So really, compared to alot of starting centres in the league (I am presuming that Asik will now start for Rockets) Asik at $8M/yr is fairly reasonable.

Also, with regards to Hibbert, it should be clarified that while the term "max deal" is being thrown around, keep in mind that Hibberts max deal is the one that is being offered based on him coming off his Rookie Contract, so its not like Hibbert is going to be paid similar to Dwight Howard or Tim Duncan for example. And if Hibbert was worth around $10-$12M that would make him comparable to guys like DeAndre Jordan, Mehmet Okur, Omeka Okafor, Chris Kaman, Marcus Camby...do you see where I am going here? All 5 of these guys make just less than what Hibbert is going to be making, which makes Hibbert's deal seem fairly appropriate as he is clearly better than all of the guys I listed here.

Not sure if you will be able to use the Thunder as an example for much longer especially once Westbrook's extension also kicks in, and next offseason Thunder will have to work out how they are going to re-sign Harden and Ibaka, putting them in a very similar position to the Pacers this year.

Toronto are offering Steve Nash a 3 Year, 36 Million Contract

Sounds like they will have to amnesty Jose Calderon to make it fit into salary, so Calderon will be Free Agent. I read that he may go to Lakers to be with Gasol (presuming he is not picked up by any of the teams below salary cap).

I'm reading that the Mavs were eyeing Joel Pryz and Thabeet?? WTF!!! Camby is still un-mentioned across all FA talks, dude shouldnt be commanding TOO much money, surely! Amnesty Haywood and pickup Camby!

Mavs' Coach Carlisle had dinner with Jazz' CJ Miles too, that's a positive sign! I've liked that kid for a while now. Poor-man's Batum IMO.

CJ is aight....... can hit the three, get the rim, pretty decent role player.

Wow, alot of names getting thrown about. I really hope Ray Ray does'nt go to Miami. I thought he was more the kind of guy to want a challenge. There is no way he's only worth 3 mil per year.

I also hope Nash goes somewhere decent. Even if I do like that he's considering playing in his homeland. Knicks for me is still where I'd like to see him go. Surely he could make it work between that lot of scorers.

To me Deron would be a bit crazy to stay at the Nets, but again, you add Kidd, Dwight, Wallace and maybe someone else, they'll be top 4 in the East (not hard to do:whistle:)

What moves will the Lakers make? Surely even they are after Nash?
