Well as expected he has done it. Thorpe will retire effective immediatley.

I think everyone saw this coming, and to be honest, while he is a champion, i am not sad to see him go.

I reckon he sold out and started thinking about the money to much....well compared to other swimmers anyway.

Come on, he's been sick (fully sick) and it's hard to get back into shape after both going through what he had and after taking such a long time off. Like Grant Hackett said, he accomplished more in one year what most swimmers can in 10. He's a champion but we've proven that Australia has the best swimmers in the world. We'll get over it

I think he quit cause he has aids, thats why his sick. Way to give up, he has the chance to be the greatest Olympic althlete of all time and just gives up.

He was World Champion at 15. He's done more than enough for this country with regards to winning, 10 years of it. I say good on him for being honest with himself and persuing a different path in life
