Only just found out there is a cheap option for international shipping which comes with online tracking (which should fulfill EBay's protection criteria). Maybe I have been out of the loop in posting overseas recently so this is new for me.

it is called Pack and Track, and comes in pre-paid satchel bags for 1kg.

Pack and Track International – articles up to 2kg
Pack and Track International Consignment Note required and attach a commercial invoice if goods are for sale.
Weight New Zealand United States United Kingdom
Up to 500g $18.15 $23.25 $27.25
Over 500 up to 750g $22.35 $30.00 $36.00
Over 750 up to 1,000g $26.55 $36.75 $44.75
Over 1,000 up to 1,250g $30.75 $43.50 $53.50
Over 1,250 up to 1,500g $34.95 $50.25 $62.25
Over 1,500 up to 1,750g $39.15 $57.00 $71.00
Over 1,750 up to 2,000g $43.35 $63.75 $79.75

Prepaid satchel for up to 1kg $25.90 to NZ, $36.10 to US, $44.10 to UK.

So a whole lot cheaper than ECI (less than half the price!) and better than plain registered.

Is this the one where the 500g bag is a large padded envelope? It seems to be the same price as the one I use when sending to the US!

No, that is the registered post bag which does not come with tracking. I think as a response to paypal they have developed this product that is basically regular shipping but with tracking, so even better than registered in my opinion.

I have used this service already but be careful because if you are only sending one card and pick up one of the pre paid 1kg bags it will cost you the full price for a 1kg bag.

I found that they have forms for this new service you can complete which the post office then attaches to your padded bag and the cost to the US is around $28.00. I have used these forms already.

Also according to my post office they do not offer this service to Canada, European or Asian countries

Yeh. Saw these new track n pack things, they keep offering me this service every time I send a parcel. Sounds like a good idea and cheaper option. Remember though, PayPal require a SIGNED delivery conformation.

from the impression i get either way there is still nothing stopping the buyer from ripping you off if that i what they want to do, sent registered/signed or whatever, all they need to say is it is counterfeit, and ebay will just instruct them to destroy it and refund them,
guess that is why im still sitting on so many cards, im too scared to get ripped off on ebay :(

But you say if you use one of those forms and attach it to your bubble mailer which is < 1kg you still have to pay $28 though?

Correct, you pay the $28 which is a lot cheaper than paying the full price for picking up one of the 1kg pre paid bags which will set you back about $45

Why not just get the 500g/$23.25 one?

Because there is not a 500g pre paid bag(at least the two post offices i have been too have told me that), they only come in the up to 1kg size. So if you are sending one card that weighs say 80gm and you use the up to 1kg bag it will cost the $45approx. Use the form and the cost is reduced
