PSA v BGS

I am sure this is a topic that has been covered before, but I am hoping some people can help shed some light on this for me, either by linking a thread where it has been discussed, or explaining it!

I have recently decided to bite the bullet and push a 'wanted item' of mine to the top of my to do list. That is to get a David Robinson RC in perfect condition. There are 2 cards from 89/90 Hoops which I want - the proper RC #138 and the other #310.

I already have the #138 as a BGS 8.5 which is cool, but I REALLY want a 10

My question is, is BGS grading more stringent than PSA??

I have been able to locate a couple of PSA 10 - Gem Mint versions which seem to sell at a reasonable price. I am actually in talks with someone about a trade for a PSA 10 RC, but I want to know whether I will really be satisfied with that or if I want the BGS 10.

I have only seen one BGS 10 RC and it is listed at the moment for $2.5K.

I can't tell if that price is purely because it is the only one around and the guy is just fishing for a sucker.... or if the BGS 10's are really that much harder to get??

I like PSA cases better. Also haven't heard of PSA damaging cards or taking $$ on the side to bump up grades have you?

A BGS 9.5 is supposed to be equal to a PSA 10, so in theory a BGS 10 should be the best you can find. When BGS first started, I would agree with this, but BGS 10's just seem far more common the last few years. So I guess try and find out when it was slabbed if possible.

BGS 10 is the hardest grade to get, harder than a PSA 10, thus less of them around. I'd def go after a BGS 10 ir a 9.5 if I can't find a 10. I like the gold label

You could just submit a 9, slip in a 50 and get a bump to 9.5! SIMPLE!!!

I can't say I have actually heard those rumours before though! lol

Either way! it has to be a PSA 10 or a BGS 10! No point doing it unless it is a 10!
