What's with people on eBay!!?? PART 2

So you have heard my last story with an eBayer who wanted refund because he felt like he overpaid for a card. Here's another one.

I received a message from an eBayer on the weekend saying that he just found out that his sister has passed away and his mum also passed away 2 months ago. He claims that he now has to pay for the funeral because his sister is young and has no insurance. So he requests very nicely that I would let him return the 2 cards he bought from me, totaling USD$41.

I am not sure what I should do here, does this sound like a legitimate story? what questions can I ask to find out if he is lying? or maybe I can find out through facebook or some other social networking site?

The fuck, who are these guys you're constantly dealing with...if you've sold the cards, transaction over. I know some people will tell you to play the compassionate card if it were true, but in all reality you shouldn't have to contribute financially to someone you don't even know and help him with his misfortune. Give your condolences and leave it at that.

WTF - I dont know whether to laugh or feel sorry for him - This must be what you would call a Linsanity hangover, i think its an excuse but without formal death certificates it is hard to tell. I would message back "i am sorry for your loss but the $41 you are going to pay me is for my families groceries as i have just lost my job and am living in a tent in my backyard as the bank has possession of my house and the $41 will keep us going for another couple of days.

I am not sure how your $41 being refunded is going to put much of a dent in paying for a funeral. I lost my father late last year (57) and my sister in law 2 weeks ago (26) and asking for a refund on something I purchased on ebay would be the last thing I would be doing. Sorry if this sounds a bit heartless but I would kindly refuse his request and offer condolences for his loss. Maybe he could try and actually sell the cards instead

Were the cards in question ones that may have gone down in value since he bought?? If the answer is yes... then I think you know whether the guy is legit!

If the answer is no.... then be a good bloke and offer him some advice on how to list the items on eBay for sale and he too will be able to get $41 for them from the next person!

The cards in question are Jeremy Lin cards once again, they have since gone down to about half of what they were selling for... if the cards are still selling HOT like they used to be, I wouldn't mind taking them back because I can sell them to someone else. The problem is, there are too many people asking for money back with a bunch of excuses, but they all admitted that there's nothing wrong with the cards.

Yeah, the fact that it is Lin's again is proof IMO that it is just an excuse to get 'full value' back on a bad investment!

It would be nice to live in a world where you CAN take people on face value, but the fact is, you can't!
