Who are the players on back ended contracts? Only one was Gasnier to my knowledge, with Gasnier retiring, Moltzen not coming, Scott leaving, also could be Young and Hornby's last season, i don't think we have money concerns..
Brett Stewart doubt we will sign him either...

After having dinner with Doust and Johnny Howard....well kinda they were at the next table (Chairmans Club) last night and from chatting with various Red V notables my take on a few of the points mentioned here are:

B Stewart wants to much money and there is serious concern about his knee, Beale is more likely although there is plenty of interest for his services from other clubs. Stanley is seen as the future 5/8. Soward signed for 3 more years in 2010 and has two years left (including this season), the contract he signed was for about $900k over the three years, he has not asked for a release or been advised to "shop" himself around. His contract is not heavily back ended.

The Dragons had some salary cap issue due to the large number of young kids who played top grade during origin, lots of contracts incentive based. No salary cap pressures this year as AY said / Gasnier retiring no Boyd etc

The Leagues club is still struggling but will survive, the major sponsors or onboard until end of 2015 and will most likely continue their association then.

Cheers

So true regarding grass roots, look after that, the game will flourish without doubt...

I agree that the NRL Commission should ensure the strength of the current teams before expanding. When they aree ready to expand, I see Perth and Brisbane II as the best options. An 18 team comp (maybe 2015) and see how that runs for a while.

I don't agree that quality of players is an issue, there seems to be plenty of good players to go around, and if the Commission looks after grass roots footy, that will always be the case.

Pretty much what i heard as well BStewart wants $600,000 that aint going to happen especially with his dodgy knee..
Regarding Beale, Tigers/Dogs are looking at him as well, the other one i heard is Cronk we want but again his asking price is very high, Dragons traditionally don't buy established big name players with big price tags..
Can confirm also that King is considering an offer from the Knights, which IMHO would be a big blow for us..

As a Dragons supporter, i would hate to see the Sharks even the dogs die, for me personally these are the games i look forward to, the rivalry that they bring out is whats it's all about...

once again you have no idea
last 10 years? we have been equal 1st played in 2 major prelim finals

i know the results havent been too good last couple of years but the change in leadership has been great for the club and have kept it going
your not sure what the club knows what its doing?? is a garbage statement and once again prove your knowledge is limited

also lacks funding? yes due to past management but we have one major advantage over the other sides we do OWN our home ground and the surrounding area? thats why they are looking into developing it

but yeah the sharks are a easy target for people like you who just assume the league would be better off without them
also if there is no sharks where are you going to poach more local talent from like mitch brown and bryson goodwin both cronulla juniors

My thoughts for what they are worth

Merge two sydney teams. I am not sure which two because I think that all of the sydney teams have a part to play. Alot of the suburban grounds like Belmore and Leichardt oval are what league is all about. Bring in a QLD central coast team, WA team and maybe 2nd NZ team based in Christchurch. This will be more than enough expansion for the next few years and if these are successful we look further afield.

As for a second Brisbane team I don't really like the idea, look at the Sth Qld Crushers, QLD central coast is a goldmine of league talent and would be very viable.

I would hate to see the Titans go under but all sporting teams regardless of the code seem to struggle on the coast.

We need to have PNG put back into the Qcup and if they get strong enough maybe NRL down the track.

Maurice Blair if you have not heard is in trouble..
Melbourne Storm release: Maurice Blair was involved in an alleged incident on the Gold Coast and has been charged with unlawful assault.

Parramatta Eels Release:....
We are hopeful of a good showing this weekend against the Panthers at parramatta stadium,
we have held the winning teams to 16 points or less when beating us at home this year as opposed to over 30 points when we travel away so signs are looking good for us in not getting totally flogged again.

I actually think the Eels vs Panthers will be a good game. Eels need a win and the Panthers will need to make up for the poor effort today.

St George have a major announcement coming tomorrow according to twitter rumours.

Willie Mason will NOT be signing for Tigers but is rumoured to be announcing something this week about his future. Im thinking maybe blue and red involved.

BTW - love those cards in your signature Matt!! They are cracking.
