Tweed Giants were based in Tweed Heads and The Seagulls club still play in Q Cup in the same area so they are a seperate clubs from the Titans. Its like saying Newtown Jets are South Sydney. Just because they play in the same area, doesn't mean they are the same club.

But Newtown and Souths were never named the same thing.

Gold Coast Giants
Gold Coast Seagulls
Gold Coast Gladiators
Gold Coast Chargers
Gold Coast Dolphins/Titans

Anyway...just stirring.

Who are the players on back ended contracts? Only one was Gasnier to my knowledge, with Gasnier retiring, Moltzen not coming, Scott leaving, also could be Young and Hornby's last season, i don't think we have money concerns..
Brett Stewart doubt we will sign him either...
As for Saints...they have big money concerns and too may back ended contracts apparently.

But still...

I was under the impression that most of the current stars are on back ended contracts.

And as for money, its been well discussed for a number of years that the revenues coming in to Saints ain't as good as they should be or could be. Illawarra Leagues doesn't make enough cash and is too small as it is. Allegedly one of the reasons why Bennett moved on - his contract ended and there wasn't a lot of coin in the kitty. That's according to the Illawarra Dragons members who right in to your club.

It was reported in the DT this week and i also remember hearing it on talkin sport this week. From memory they mentioned Soward as having a backended contract. Might be more to it.

I think you guys will end up with Stewart!

Pretty sure Bennett said when he announced that he was joining Newcastle that it wasn't about money as the Dragons had offered the same amount or there abouts..
Anyway from my trolling of Dragon forums backended contracts have not been brought up...Re Talking Sports even though i listen to it as well, they don't know squat...
Soward may have one, our issue is that someone decided to give a 3 year deal to Fien - wonder why Bennett did that??, maybe to push King to Newcastle...

I just emailed St George Illawarra to get to the bottom of it all, though I very much doubt they will answer, but here was my email:

Dear St George Illawarra,
I am a member of a number of RL forums, although not a Saints member myself, though a number of family members are, and my 91 year old grandfather remains to this day, a Red V tragic.
There has been a lot of idle gossip, media speculation and the like about a number of topics.
I am unsure if you can confirm the following, but I'm going to have a go.
1. Back ended contracts. It has been mentioned on League Unlimited, Triple M sports and Talkin' Sports that there are a number of players on back ended contracts causing headaches in regards to the salary cap. Is this true? Are you able to divulge which of the current squad are on back ended contracts? Or at least how many players are currently on back ended contracts?
2. Jamie Soward. Is it true the club has discussed, or even allowed him a release to go to Rugby Union?
3. Revenue. Is St George and Illawarra suffering from a downturn in revenue collection and revenue streams? Was this a reason for Wayne Bennett's departure.
4. Brett Stewart. Has he been signed for a four year deal?
Any effort to answer these questions would be much appreciated. I am in no way trying to wind you up, I am just tired of media speculation and gossip and would like to know some facts.

Good luck with that. If you get any response you should work for the media

I very much doubt I will get anything...but hey, it can't hurt to try. :-)

I will email Manly next about DCE, Lussick and B Stewart.

Anyone want any other club questioned? Within reason.

FLMAO - will get all the goss now. You know what cheergirls are like...see and hear everything going on.

However, how reliable an 8 year old is dependable on what she hears...but she couldn't be any less reliable than the Daily Telegraph.
