Almost over the hobby and it's stupid prices!!

i don't think anyone is moaning about people making slight profit, more people holding PC collectors to ransom just because the know they want it badly. Everyone is different, example, i just sold my jordan rookie for prob 150us under what i should have, but that's what it owes me so i don't really mind, i could be ruthless have it on ebay for a while, have the hassle of offers, then ebay fees etc but i couldn't be bothered.

And i disagree with one of the above comments re " underpricing", i frequently see comments and will be the first to point when i buy a card for a steal! i think that's one of the most talked about bits of the hobby.

Don't get me wrong I do over pay occasionally to get something. Anywhere between $50-$100 but when greedy turds are asking lik $1000 for a $200 card it's just wrong and I'm wondering if it would ruin the hobby??

It's nothing new, it use to happen in the early to mid 90s when I was a kid and it still happens now! It's just a faceless person on eBay now rather then a store owner trying to get the most out of over excited kids!! It will always be a part if collecting, cards, sneakers, die cast cars, memorabilia everything!!! If you can't find away to enjoy the hobby around it, then maybe it is time to get out?! I've got what I think is an awesome player PC in my Hodge collection! Not worth a thing to most, and I over paid through the teeth for a lot of my cards but they are pc cards and I paid what I did because I wanted them!! Hype, eg Lin and certified will always cause ups and downs and people try and create hype to cash in but you just have to find away around it to keep enjoy the hobby or you will always have thoughts of giving it away!!

100% agree with you mate. I hate it when I see a card that would look great for my PC, and then I look at the price and I just can't afford it!!

Like Adam, I love collecting sets, that's why I hate 1 pack boxes because I love buying big boxes and bulid base sets and insert sets :)

It's definitely a subjective hobby, as to a lot of people scrub players are worth nothing, but you get 2 or 3 hardcore collectors chasing the same scrub player and you'll see their prices rise.

More recently I've found myself spending more then I would have in the past, but it's mainly because the cards I'm chasing are starting to get thin and I'm chasing the a lot of lower numbered cards. I feel I have over paid on some cards but never regretted it, so maybe in actuality I didn't overpay because the joy of the collection is a lot more then the monetary outlay.

here here !

maybe the nba hobby has gained more interest than it had in the past, all cards were cheap a few years ago

I wouldn't even single out Ebay... DACards has pretty much jacked all their NBA box prices up overnight.... Some non-Lin product has even doubled... Look at their "bpp" for Basketball, only 9 items now.... NFL and MLB all over 50 items... The international interest in the hobby (NBA) has skyrocketed since Lin and DA is the only real option out of the states (unless you look deep)... I guess for some it's hard to believe that this isn't about PC's, sets, cardboard, wax.... It's a business and those involved (from the casual ebay seller to DA's) is trying to make as much money as possible (WOW! 10/11 prestige rakpak boxes for $96 @ DA's!!!! - They were $17 not too long ago and it's the same stock)...

Good for me, my main interest is in NFL singles pretty much (may bust a box or 2 soon but the live breaks scare me when I see $100 boxes getting opened and the "hits" can be purchased for $5 each off ebay) and I wait a cpl months after a product is out and the impatient PC'ers fight each other and overpay.... Then I come in and pick stuff up on the cheap.

Got A Christian Ponder Letterman for $9 (Mint) as an additional item to a PC card I wanted at auction a while back bc dude had no pic in listing.

same card went for $38 & $47 last week at auction.... Very nice!

Yeh it's getting expensive. It's probably because alot of people player collect these days. Back in the day you were pumped to get a Jordan common or any insert. Now it's all high end and there's plenty of people with money to pay it. Especially now it's so global. You only need 2 people to want a card soooo bad to get a high price.

Despite what some people are saying I think the nba is in great shape at the moment. There's some great young teams competing for the chip. 90's stuff is going off and does'nt look like slowing down for the key guys.

I just wish when I came back to the hobby I did'nt waste money on junky boxes. Shoulda gone straight for the higher end pc stuff.

ok i will add my 2 cents at the risk of being crucified..... im on the other side of the fence, for some reason any card of value that i own and want to sell is only worth 25% the value on either ebay or via beckett pricing to anyone on here that is interested. id like to know why i see people offering nothing for base cards out of a set where a box costs $150 like gold standard. im not going to spend thousands of dollars buying and then give away cards for next to nothing. also i have seen a lot of cheap deals done and then a month later the cards are for sale again but now at a higher price, so as i see it a card is worth nothing if you want to buy but everything when you sell. if i was going to spend $$$ buying for my collection i wouldnt haggle if they asked beckett high price yet if i was to sell a similar card i would be expected to sell for a quarter of the value.
what really gets to me is the wantlist, you put a list of what you are after, so you are actively after these cards to finish the collection but wont pay for the cards. people would rather continue waiting than pay for the cards and be done...

Strike while the iron is hot. Instead of whining about how much cards are, sell now when its at higher prices and buy it back later when it cools off, like after the season.

No matter what you hear on TV, people do have $$$ to burn and are willing to over pay for cards. I look at ebay as the standard for pricing as its REAL, not the crap that Becketts puts out. Becketts is a guide for low end cards when your trading low end cards. Other then that, I live on supply and demand and what deal you can make with someone.

This is cardboard people, not gold. Its not oil futures, buy short or long. The hobby is what you make of it, if people buy a card and then try to sell it for 10 bucks more a week later, so be it. I know a few people here that change their minds about what and who they are going to collect like I change my jocks. I have no issues with this, its there collections and its there $$$, they can leave it here or in a bar or on a 1970's ford.

If you dont like this, then try and find a new hobby where your not doing exactly the same, its call economics of having too much time on your hands.

Ha ha, I love the bottom 2 lines of this, happens all the time. It's like they "want" them................... for free.

I love the higher prices. I love the range of cards, 1/1, 1/5, 1/10 and so on up to unlimited numbers. If you can only afford the longer prints you can't blame the hobby for that.

I am probably gonna cop some nastiness for this but... I dont care if DACW sponsor this site or not, they are thieves in my opinion. Its fine to make a living, but chaps like these really show their true colors.
