Hey all,

I'm pretty new on here, and thought I'd ask around for advice from fellow members - since you've all been so friendly and helpful since I joined up here.

People on here obviously have some pretty sweet cards hanging around their houses. How do you go about storing them? Are they tucked away in a storage box, never to see the light of day? Are they framed on your wall next to a jersey? What does everyone do with their most prized/most attractive/most loved/most valuable cards? I'm sure there will be as many answers as there are collectors.

My apologies in advance if this has already been covered in another thread!

Cheers,
Rob

I keep my best cards in top laoders, one touchers, screw downs etc. Everything else in albums or any other base cards in rubber bands, in my draw!

I keep my Best in a Safety Deposit Box at the Bank under lock and key.
The box comes free with my account there so it doesnt cost me anything.

The rest are stored in cases, boxed in a storage unit with insurance.
The only way I look at my cards are if I visit my website. That is why
I take great care to photograph and upload the new additions.
Nevertheless there are many cards that I have in storage that are not photographed.
I know I will be surprised when I take them out and revisit them eventually.

Mainly folders in the cupboard, but I do try and look through old base sets frequently because I do enjoy the browsing.

PC cards and higher end stuff I have in a hard file box, but I dont have anything I regard as safe deposit box worthy.

I like to be able to browse my folders etc, so everything is filed rather than just in piles of 5000 count boxes etc.

I have a bunch of cards from 90's early 00's in about 8 folders in my cuboard. I'm at the stage where I really want to get rid of them, but don't really know how too as they aren't valuable enough to sell as a whole (postage would be ridiculous), but I don't just want to chuck them or give them away. In an Ideal world, someone who pay me $50 for the pile and take them off my hands!

My better items like the kemp autos, my small weatherspoon PC, my RPA PC and of course my Aminu PC are in top loaders in a storage box next to my computer, so I go through them all the time.

Holy hell.. how does one end up with that many cards? What do the more hardcore collectors blow in $$ terms per year on cards?! Is it just a matter of breaking a s**tload of boxes, or what?

Thanks for the tips guys!

KB - how many cards would you say you had sitting there in your cupboard?

Personally I like my PC players, but also enjoy collecting base sets of lower end products, so yeah I lots of folders. And how much do i spend? thats hard to say really. If you break boxes you can trade or sell hits to pay for PC etc. I probably would be a bit afraid if I added up what I spent in a year, and I will definitely not be leting my wife do that anytime soon!!

How thorough are you with PCs? Do you try to get your hands on everything you can get, or are you selective about it? I'm keen on some full base sets too, there are a fair few going cheap on eBay but the temptation to buy a box or two and try to put it together myself is also there.. :D what the wife doesn't know can't hurt, unless she looks at the credit card bill! haha

My 3main PC players are Wesley Matthews, John Amaechi and Chuck Person. For these 3 I would like to get one of every card that they have had released. Others such as David Robinson is just what I see, because a player like that has just so many cards out there.

I would recommend buying a box or two for the base sets, that way you will get some hits (that is Autos or Game Used) cards as well. and if it is a box with a lot of packs, eg 20 with 5 cards each, then you will complete a 100 card set most often anyway.

If you want some box advice let me know.

Fair call! I'm just starting a small Noah collection, guessing he's got a fair bit too much released already to have one of everything. I've got a Panini Threads blaster box on the way, having already opened one and ended up with about 80% of base cards. I guess the trick is just finding the boxes with the most $$ value hits?

Yeah thats it. Blasters are great for putting together base sets.

Using 'UltraPro' toploaders, I use 100pt and they fit all of my standard Panini GU/Jersey cards!

The ones in the link you posted are for standard thickness cards (like the base cards from threads)
