Michael Jordan Rookie - I want to get it graded

This is my 1986-87 Michael Jordan Fleer Rookie I want to get graded.

I asked this late last year, someone asked for a scan of the card, I don't have a scanner so pics are attached. I assume this is to comment on whether it is real or not.

I know the card is real, but I understand there are people out these that would question this. Don't know why they made re-prints of this card!

I tried to take photos of the area mostly highlighted to show a Jordan rookie is not real like the Bulls eye's and the Fleer logo. Hope this stops everyone telling me it's fake. If it helps I was told by someone the easiest way to spot fakes is the fakes are almost all perfectly centered. As you can see mine is not.

Where is the best place to send it?
Is it safe? Are there any bad stories about getting cards graded? I would hate to lose it.

I know Graham on here does PSA grading submission and is definately one you can trust with it!

Otherwise, I think you can do a BGS submission yourself, just not the cheapest.

Their was a thread a few months back of a BGS grading gone wrong. Card sent in great condition. Alledgedly recieved damaged. Still graded (poor grade), still charged, and returned. No refund. No admition of guilt. Big crease in card despite being sent as per directed. So be careful how you send it. Personally I wouldnt send in such a valuable card but at a minimum it need to be insured/registered that would cover theft but damage might be hard to prove.

I got the case years ago, in a card shop in Adelaide. The case then cost me about $20 in 1992. lol
I think it's bullet proof lol

Damaged cards sent back... OK I think I have made my mind up! No way I'm risking that!
I would sooner fly over and get it graded in person... then again that might me pricy too! lol

i'm a bit confused by this card... the edges all the way around are too thin? the inside part of the card is way too big?

here's a couple of mine that have reasonable centering... am i off to be questioning this card?

Read the thread. Its interesting. It was a Wilt Chamberlin Auto worth $1800. More than your MJ, so it is high risk IMO. Not worth it unless you're selling it soon.

No that's OK, if I had a $1 for everyone who questioned it I would have about $14.50 lol

It "was" (not going to send it anywhere now) one of the main reasons I wanted to get it graded coz the first question everyone asks is "Is it real?"

There is about a 4mm boarder on one side and about 2 - 2.5mm on the other.

to me it doesn't even look close to real! as u can see on a real one the borders are much thicker, if yrs was thin like it is on one side and then really wide on the opposite side then i could understand it.

I'm no expert tho, for yr sake i hope its real, good luck with whatever path u take to get it looked at!

Glayam, what makes you so confident its real? Did you pull it from a pack? Buy it from someone you know? Pay top dollar?

I have no opinion on its authenticness. But I wouldnt grade it purely to prove it. Its what you think that matters and you know its real. But if you were to sell, then yes grading will help plenty. Though if the boarders are 4mm and 2.5mm im guessing it will grade poorly and lose value. But atleast buyers will know its real.

Yeh the boarders on top and bottom look really off, either its fake or really trimmed..

Awww I'm glad someone remembered and hopefully it saved somebody.

As for this Jordan, as soon as I saw it in this thread I didn't like it. The top and bottom borders are both too thin (and look amazing colour). It's either been trimmed or it is a fake and has kind of been blown up. If one border is thin like that the other should be fat... but both are thin.
So, sending it for grading should identify for sure if it's real or not, but it could be expensive to do so, and even if it's real it has likely been trimmed so won't grade well, or will be rejected (or graded as "authentic - trimmed")

It looks trimmed to me rather then a fake. If you look at the photo there is so much space in that card holder. I use to have a few of those in the 90s. There wasn't that much space once the card was inside.

Yep. Definately looks small. Can you measure the card and post the measurements?
