Oh thats a toughy I was actually thinking about some of my favourite *non flashy* base designs when updating my warriors collection in the bucket.
I think 1993/94 was an outstanding year for base designs. Loved Upper Deck, Skybox and Finest....
I think the base designs went backwards in 94/95.
and I tend to agree that 1995/96 Flair was awesome!!!
93/94 Upper Deck had it all, heaps of insert looking subsets to give you a few cards to chase of players and then some very nice real inserts... as an overall set it probably wins, but I think Skybox is my fave set behind Finest... I sitll believe the debut of finest is amongst the best designs for that set ever.
Without a doubt the most influential set for me and what a great chase it was (Although still around a dozen short but I cant say which ones because they are sitting in a folder in Adelaide)
Great subsets and inserts as well - The Rookie standouts were awesome. Pulled the Shaq in my first ever pack... Used to book at around $100 if I remember correctly... Now you can pick up the whole set for $20
1993-94 upper deck. Will alway be precious to me as its where it all began for me. And in particular the Michael Jordan's flight team card. I pulled the Stacey augmon back in the day and it was about on par with pulling a durant auto these days for excitement!
