Ok, here's a doozey...

Today/yesterday, which ever, we picked up a Panasonic Surround System, which has an Optical Input (for Sound).

When I plug in our DVD Recorder to the Optical Input, and select it from the Input Selections, it works.

When I plug in my 360, it doesnt....

If I plug in my 360 to the LCD (same Optical cable), it works....

Any ideas??

Can't for the life of me understand why not???

So the XBox 360 output line is obviously glowing red given it is working through the TV input. Only thing I can think of is there may be some incompatability between your sound system and the XBox, or perhaps it needs to be setup for particular devices (the latter is unlikely)? What is the model number of the Panasonic system?

SC-PT460 I think is the model #.

It's got me beat. 1 works but the other doesnt.

No biggie, but it would be awesome to have surround sound for the 360.

A quick search suggests it should work without a problem...are you sure it isn't a sound level problem (ie. are you getting zero sound, or is it just quiet)?

And, so when the DVD recorder is working with optical into the system, and the XBox 360 is working through the TV via optical (and only optical), have you tried just hot swapping the optical cable of the XBox 360 and DVD recorder? I've never had a problem with optical cables apart from having to make sure the devices are set to use the digital optical output/input.

Yeah, DVD Recorder works fine in both LCD & Surround System, he 360 only works fine in the LCD, not the Surround System.

I havent tried swapping the cables, didnt think that would make a difference, but it's worth a try.

There's zero sound, I tried cranking it right up but still nothing.

On a side note, I switched the 360 to HDTV and far out, the picture quality is OFF THE SHOW!!
(I have tried both TV & HDTV settings, so that's not the problem).

mate how many optical inputs does ur reciever have? you should be able to pick which device you are using through your receiver or use your tv as the slave and run the xbox to ur tv but run the sound thru the receiver....or maybe use HDMI? let me know how you go cos i had a terrible time setting up my tv/home theatre

No receiver slobby.

There's 1 optical input on the Panasonic system, which is about 3 button clicks from memory to bring up. Works for the DVD Recorder we have, but not for the 360.

It's all set up OK (I think), I just can't get sound through the surround system, when I can with the DVD Recorder.

righto, looks like you will have to use your tv. run your xbox straight to the tv, then you should be able to use your tv menu and pick the device you want to play (mine has game, dvd, vcr) then you should be able to have ur surround sound coming from the tv which is being used as a pass-through

So you mean have the surround sound sent from the telly to the surround system?

I'll give that one a whirl later too.

Cheers!

yeah exactly, just plug ur xbox straigt to the tv, if you have 2 Opticals in ur tv you could run FO from xbox to tv and FO from tv to surround...it should work mate even if you dont run FO to ur tv and just standard red blue green's

Thanks very much for this Slobby, only just got around to this today, and it works like a
charm!!

I've now plugged the 360 into the Telly direct, then the Telly into the DVD Player/Surround System via the Optical Out (Fibre Optical cable), and that also sends ANY audio sound from the telly to the surround system!

Love it!!!

Cheers again!
