Was looking to purchase a cheap scanner anyway found this on ebay

Canon CanoScan LiDE 35 Flatbed Scanner like new ex cond - eBay, Scanners, Computers. (end time 10-Jul-10 21:26:58 AEST)

noticed that they charge $5 for pick up, "Collections of all items, no matter what the quantity, will incurr a $5.00 handling fee"

I sent them a message if that was correct thhen got the response
"That is correct. It is just $5 for pick up!
Regards,
- deeppoint72"

So within 1 minute of receiving the response i wrote back asking "Why"
No response at all from them.

Now i just find it ridiculous that they can charge $5, would you do that?

I wouldn't expect a response to "why", what do you want them to write? we don't really want people at our house? or something like that, I don't think they should even offer pickup though, $5 handling is BS, same or less effort required than sending it via post.

It's a "we normally gouge for our eBay fees by charging you lots for shipping, so we are going to get our fees one way or another, so if you pickup we are going to charge $5" handling fee.

$5 handling fee. Thats ridiculous. I suppose if you get it cheap enough and it is as good as the description says then it would be worth paying the $5.

When i oriinally saw the item it was only a few dollars, so i kept an eye on it anyway its at about $41, so to my surprise i got a reply to my question of "why"
here is the exchange

It is written in the description mate, and if I have to explain to everyone who wants to know I would be here all day.
I charge it, if you don't like the conditions, then feel free not to bid. Every auction I place on eBay has this condition, and no one else seems to have an issue with it, and as it says in the auction, "if you don't like it, don't bid!"

I hope this clears up your question.

my question back
Dear deeppoint72,

yes i read your description, but my question still stands why do you charge it? what does it cover?, the person is coming to you, all your doing is handing over the item..
- st.george4life

his response back was
As I stated earlier, I have no need to explain my reasons to you, it is what it is, and as I stated earlier again, if you don't like it, then don't bid.
PS: Welcome to my banned list of bidders for not listening and in general being a pain in the ass nusience!!!!
- deeppoint72

then finally i wrote back

haha thats funny you banned me like i care.., reason
you won't explain is because your a rip off artist
the nerve to charge someone $5 to pick up, when they
go to all the trouble of travelling to your place..
- st.george4life

technically he may not be a scam artist, as it's all up front, but hey it's still grubby in my eyes, just like Bank fees, sure you don't have to bid on it which i would not anyway..

well im sorry to say but i stand by the seller, he has given you an answer in all his responses to ur question and has discribe it in his items " dont like the conditions dont bid" think you where just looking for a reaction out of the seller in which you did not... regardless of if its a rip off or not it is stated that they are the conditions uppon bidding and guess thats final, so deal with it or dont bid simple...

I think he has the right to ask the question though. really he's simply trying to heads up and tell the seller that it seems ridiculous...its more or less helping him out.

At the end of the day he does clearly list in the item description you're right.
