Dear 10number6john,

The fact that you took the time to respond to my comment, speaks highly of you. Whether deliberately or by mistake, you have been sold a fake
and it would be wrong of you to sell it on to someone else. Anyhow I'll go back to minding my own business now. Just be aware, there are people watching this transaction with interest and it's your reputation on the line.

Good work Nazim. Hope he does the right thing. He would no doubt like to get his money back. The seller he bought it from said he had "checked it with other signatures on ebay and it looked spot on". I must have missed all those.

lots of plausible deniability around this item :) Oh well, hopefully the right thing will be done.

Just received another email from the seller. He has ended the auction and will try and get the autograph authenticated. I have suggested he try and get a refund from the guy he bought it from and pointed him to examples of authentic Bradman autographs.

In a way it feels really wierd to have gotten involved in this matter. I mean, I'm not the autograph police here. To the seller's credit, he didn't tell me to go jump and ended up doing the right thing.

COMPO, the next one you come across, is all yours to deal with :P

Guys, Just received this email from the seller ....

Dear nazimm,

Hi once again just had it authenticated by Jason Cullen from Rare and
Signed,Original rare signed Harry Potter First Editions, Rare Books, fine art and memorabilia

I've suggested the only way to truly resolve this is to refer it to the Bradman Foundation. Is it possible we could be wrong?

This is my email to John. Anyone else wish to weigh in on the subject?

Hi John,

I am absolutely flabbergasted. None of the collectors who have seen this believe it to be authentic. I guess the only true way to resolve this would be to refer it to the Bradman Foundation for a ruling. I wonder if dropping them a line would be well worth the effort. IF this item is authentic it would be worth an absolute fortune, because so many collectors who have received autographs from Bradman have never seen one signed the same way as the one you have. Why don't you join our conversation on the subject at

Hello everybody!!!!!!!! I am the said owner of this card and open to any questions.Yes i have had it authenticated by a very reputable company and yes i have took it off Ebay!I am willing to send it where ever you want to get YOUR authentication,i have nothing to hide.I purchased this on Ebay a few months ago from a very reputable seller,i must admit this is the first cricket autograph i have bought,99.9% of my buys are footballers, comedians etc..Just to let you know i am a genuine guy who uses Ebay as a hobby i rip NO one off!If someone sets it up i am williing to post the said item to the relevent people to get it verified, for or against, can not do much more can i?

Look we ALL know what Bradman's signature looks like and it isn't anything like that........even his real early ones look NOTHINg like that.

If you have it authenticated scan the documentation and attached it in a reply post!

Until then, I'll remain of the opinion that is is a BAD fake!

Here is a Bradman Signature for you:
Cricket Don Bradman signed autograph cover FDC COA UACC on eBay (end time 05-Feb-11 20:16:45 GMT)
There is a good reason your card had NO BIDS!

Hey John. Good to have you join the conversation. For what it's worth, I completely believe you purchased this item in good faith and credit to you for coming along here. As mentioned in my email to you, I believe the next course of action (if you are convinced the autograph is authentic, is to ask the Bradman Foundation to validate it). Bear in mind, none of us actually believe it to be genuine. You mentioned that you had it authenticated. Can you provide more information about that process as it's extremely odd someone would be wiling to put a COA against this particular signature?

Hello my friend,i have indeed been in touch again with the said person and i am, waiting for a reply, remember it is Sunday morning here.I have no issues sending this on to the Bradman Foundation for them to validate it or not,i will even pay the postage. Not ripping anyone off and in future will only talk to your good self as others seem abit touchy about this! Can not cope with people spitting there dummies out of there prams!

Don't take things personally mate. People just get frustrated seeing fake items go through ebay all the time. I myself have been sold a fake autograph (different player) in the past and it's really annoying to not be able to hold people accountable for their deception.

As far as most of us are concerned, we truly believe that you've been duped as well and that's why I had first and foremost suggested to you that you ask for a refund from the guy you bought the card from. The original seller's statement, that he had verified it's authenticity by comparing with other Bradman items just doesn't ring true. In all the years I've been collecting cricket autographs, I've not seen a Bradman signature like this. So, what on earth did he compare it to that led him to the conclusion that it's authentic? :) I reckon he was simply making a statement that would lend him plausible deniability if someone challenged him on it. Trust me, if that were a real Bradman, guys like me would have been bidding right alongside you for it, as it's quite desirable to have a Bradman autograph on a cigarette card.

Anyhow, I do know for a fact that the Bradman Foundation have taken these matters quite seriously in the past. They even went after a former cricketer, Dermot Reeve for allegedly selling fake Bradman autographs, so I'm sure they would take an interest in authenticating this item for you if you asked them.

No worries mate i thanks for your reply, just going to wait and see what sort of reply i get from "rare and signed" dont think i will get anything today (Sunday) signing off for now and well done in the cricket (one dayer) we got what we came for ( THE ASHES! ) John.
