You have no cards for trade AJ because you collect everybody!!!
lol
but i also agree that trading rocks, i much prefer to trade than buy, i would much rather spend $$$ on buying a box to get the fun of opening it and then use the cards inside as trade bait
My thoughts are by buying through the internet, and not through Card Shops is killing the old-time cornerstore Card Shop, hence reducing the marketability to young impressionable kids. If these kids don't have the Card Shops to garner interest in, then more & more will find it difficult to get into the hobby.
Dont know how i missed this the first time round. I agree and disagree with your statment Clarkey. Young kids have more and more access to the internet just like we do, so accessability isnt an issue for them.
What taking away the card shops has done is stopped new interest in the hobby...ie. A kid cant be walking past and think it would be good to start collecting. In saying that I am amazed at the collecters that we have in this board (ie, lil pharm and a few others) that are under the age of 15.

Before this site I only ever used to buy from eBay and pick up a few commons from the local shop. But now I find I buy more stuff and even lots to try and build some trade bait. I havn't been here long but I've made a couple of useful trades and it sure beats buying! (You don't get ripped on postage.) I guess as you get more well known it becomes easier as whenever someone pulls your player they let you know.
However without eBay I think there would be ALOT less collectors. eBay has brought many people back into the hobby by cheap prices and being able to find so much. Although the shift is towards high end it is becoming more affordable.
In order for card shops to survive just like many other businesses in todays world they need to adapt to the internet and change their business practice. Some have done very well with this like Burbank sportscards. I often buy lots of 10-20 commons from them even if they are $1 each because I can get them all at once and they usually have nearly every common I need.
Its never going to be like the old days which is kind of sad. I remember going to the card shops on weekends, buying packs and pulling your folder out for others to look at, then trading. It was fun......but look at the cards and our collections now. We wouldn't be so spoilt.
