Who needs the no.1 draft pick the most???

I love these kind of questions NBA.COM throws up.

By far it is the Bobcats but they kind of suck on purpose. I think the other teams are trying a bit harder still.

Does it really matter what Cleveland has? Lebron is not coming back. Now I know he said it's an option but I give it 0 possibility.

I like what Aschburner says, the Bobcats need it and they need to get it right. Bloody oath.

M.J's legacy is being tarnished because I actually think he's a terrible manager.

Let's look at some players in the draft M.J has missed out on.

2011 drafted no.9 Kemba Walker (not a horrible pick) but missed out on:
Klay Thompson, K. Leonard, N. Vucevic, Faried, and C. Parsons
(Kawhi Leonard was well reported the Spurs were chasing hard and that's why they traded for Indiana's pick at 18, I couldn't believe no team tried to snake him from them, the Spurs ALWAYS draft well)

2012 drafted no.2 M. Kidd-Gilchrist and missed out on Beal, Waiters,
LILLARD!!!!! (I have a friend from Portland that was carrying on about Lillard being the best player in the draft by a long shot waaaaaayyyy before the draft and he was hoping he would slip to them) Of course M.J had K. Walker so no point grabbing a PG right? Silly. Also missed out on Drummond.

In saying that I really do like MKG, hope he gets better and better.

Now M.J may prove me totally wrong, but let's hope he doesn't get it wrong next draft, hopefully they can celebrate the no.1 pick.

I actually think the Bobcats have always drafted terribly so maybe M.J has just inherited that sh*tty knack for it.

So, who needs the no.1 pick the most that can actually benefit from it?

I think Charlotte and Phoenix are desperately in need of a number 1 pick - hope the Magic get it though, as we have lots of promising rookies this year, and we will be a force in a few years, especially with another top pick!

I should add other players the Bobcats have passed up on.

2004 drafted Okafor No.2 missed out on L. Deng, Iguodala and Josh Smith

2005 drafted Felton no.5 missed out on Bynum, Granger, D. Lee

2006 drafted Morrison no.3 missed out on B. Roy, R. Gay, Redick, Rondo, Lowry, Millsap

2007 drafted Brandon Wright no.8 missed out on J. Noah, Splitter, M. Gasol

2008 drafted D.J. Augustin no. 9 missed out on B. Lopez, R. Hibbert, Ibaka, Batum, G. Hill, Pekovic, D. Jordan, Dragic

2009 drafted G. henderson no.12 missed out on J. Holiday, T. Lawson

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and you could do this for alot of teams consistently in the lottery but the Bobcats need to pick the best player in the draft next year.

I agree, the Dwight trade didn't work out too bad at all and the Magic were smart in going for youth instead of taking too much back.

A no. 1 pick always seems to do well in Orlando, they have a great following and are just a well liked team.

Chicago needs it most, as they will never pickup a super star or a good free agent.

Drafting is their only option to win a championship against miami lol.

i think Atlanta has a worse track record with drafting, MARVIN WILLIAMS enough said!! I truely think even as a suns fan we need that number 1 pick, we are in a major rebuilding phase after losing good players year after year, if not us i think magic deserve it being that they lost dwight and would be awesome to see them succeed without the big cry baby

I would argue Morrison is the only bad pick from this lot....sure they've missed some OK players, but no superstars - except Rondo in the '06 draft. But even so, Morrison dominated at College, so very likely he was high on everyones radar. The rest of these picks are pretty solid.

You have to draft for what you need too. For example, obviously didnt feel they needed a SF in '04?

Jordans other big bust though was Kwame whilst at Washington.

I agree and disagree at the same time, no superstars sure, but they've missed out on All Stars.

You're right though, nothing has really killed them. It's also not like they've had picks 1-3 the whole time.

Don't forget Fredette also DOMINATED at college, it does not always translate. there's guys in the nba that didn't dominate college that have been very successful at the nba level.

I totally agree, timing is everything right, they might have a guy they can think can start in the nba like K. Walker and then pass up Lillard.

I think their worst year is actually 07, B. Wright as a big when they could have grabbed Noah, Splitter (was playing International ball already and the Spurs had their eye on him) or Gasol (you had to predict Pau's brother could play right?).

Probably their other bad one was 04 getting Okafor, a solid player and he had the credentials but just never got the offensive game.

Wright's an interesting one...Given he was a draft night trade, maybe thats who GSW wanted them to pick. Pre-planned for the J-rich trade?

And the Okafor year....after Dwight, very weak year for PF/C's..check the players in those positions picked later in the draft. Emeka was clear second best in my opinion - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2004_NBA_Draft

Wasn't okafor rookie of the year? Seemed like a pretty solid pick, so he didn't pan out in the long run, he was the right pick at the time

Yep, exactly like I said, had all the credentials in College. Not much you can do there. Looked like he was gonna be pretty great.

they didn't have to pick a Big though. Josh Smith would have been very handy, even Iguodala would have been a better pick. He carried the 76ers once Iverson left.

You could ask the question, who NEEDS #1 pick more, but the question probably should be ask "who WOULD they take with #1 pick".

To run through a few years of picks and say people missed out on someone is crazy, no one knows for sure how these players will turn out in the NBA, I mean look at Bynum.... Bastard had some positive years, and was destined to be something better than good, but injuries fucked him over. Same goes for Okie Doke.

We also have to factor in WHAT player a team needs. Bobcats could have taken back to back PGs, like Minny did with Flynn and Rubio, but unless there's a sure-thing player, like Chris Paul and Dwight Howard coming into a draft, you take what you need, and your best option.

Like any draft, you look back and let out a big laugh, asking WTF!

Be prepared for one of the worst drafts in history. The only 2 players I see having a great career out of the next lot are Ben McLemore out of Kansas & Trey Burke out of Michigan. Although Charlotte really should be working for a big man I don't see Nerlens Noel living up to expectations (possibly the most over-rated player in this years draft) they really should have a go at shooting guard Ben McLemore. Jordan will make another fool of himself if he lets this guy slip. Same goes for Phoenix if they get #1 pick, can't remember who they have in SG position (brown or johnson or something ..) but another team who should make a gun at McLemore. Lastly if Orlando get #1 pick (fingers crossed) they should make a really smart decision and go for Trey Burke, as much as I love Jameer Nelson, I'd much rather see him come off the bench if it meant they were able to start Burke. In my opinion the Magic will be playoff contenders in 2 seasons with the talent they have at the moment if they continue to draft well. + with Burke they'll have that extra true killer instinct and fighting heart despite his height (may be like cp3 who knows?)
Much respect to Marcus Smart too who I also think will play awesome wherever he goes, he can take over games and is so advanced for his age ... Also keep a look out for Jamaal Franklin from San Diego State and Otto Porter from Georgetown (but only coz his uncle's my coach lol, he probably won't be great).

as many have said, its easy to look back and say that teams have screwed up the draft. but everything is an unknown. yes ammo didnt work out for the cats, but as was also said, big time college play doesnt always translate. jj redick has had to work damn hard to be the player he is today. michael beasley was almost picked over d rose and how would chicago look now?? what if portland had picked kd, and no gm in their right mind at the time was gonna pass up oden with the #1 pick.

this years draft has no stars that stand out in my eyes, but who knows. i think orlando should get number 1, yeah im biased, and draft a pg. i dont care which one. if i have to watch jameer keep throwin up heat check 3s im gonna rip my eyes out. i think noels knees are too iffy.

lol i actually think I could file for bullying complaints to a good 10 people when I said Lillard will be Rookie of the year before the draft also haha! To be fair Anthony Davis was a killer pick though!

Ha ha, the Bees definitely have not gone wrong with Davis, I think that guy is gonna be a gun, if not next year then the year after. He's great! And I never make calls about rookies.

There are some excellent replies here, I don't watch nearly enough College ball to guess who should be no.1 next season.

At the end of the day, there are All Stars drafted EVERY year (bar 2000 because it was awful).

I kind of hope the Bobcats get it, but then I know they'll bomb out again next season because they'll want a top3 pick the year after also.

I think the team out of the bottom that may make the most difference with no.1 is Orlando.

Who needs the no.1 draft pick the most???
