Another kick in the nuts for Eagles supporters this year!
And thoroughly deserved!Just kidding, mate.
I can see him at either Carlton (cashed up, high draft picks and in need of a great midfielder) or Melbourne (high DP, have Russell Robertson on the trading block already and in need of... everything!)
Sources close to Judd indicated yesterday that Collingwood and Hawthorn might figure highly on his list of preferred clubs. He is believed to be impressed by the young, talented playing lists at the two clubs.
Collingwood's head of football Geoff Walsh said yesterday: "We haven't discussed it internally at all … you're going to have to move heaven and earth (to get him) aren't you? He's a heaven-and-earth player, so the cost … will be significant."
Melbourne is keen and understood to be well prepared for a bid.
Hawthorn's list manager, Chris Pelchen, said: "Yes, we do have an interest and we will be putting together a package and proposal model that reflects our recruiting model, our total-player-payments model and one which is respectful of the whole player group."
Whoah, whoah, whoah! We do NOT want Robbo, that ain't gonna happen!
My thoughts being a Melbourne supporter is that Robbo wouldn;t be in the deal. High DP as well as either/or both Cameron Bruce and Travis Johnstone would be closer to the call IMO.
Tough call to get rid of Cam Bruce....he has probably been our most consistant performer over the past few years.
Might also help if we happen to get Judd....cause it will allow Bruce to play on the half forward line where in my opinion he is at his most dangerous!!
Where will Chris Judd go?
WEST Coast skipper Chris Judd is flying east, and the big question is: where exactly will he land? afl.com.au’s Matt Burgan takes a look at the likely – and less likely – contenders for his services.
THE FRONT-RUNNERS
Carlton
With president Richard Pratt at the helm and renewed financial strength, the Blues are in pole position to secure Judd’s services. They have the bargaining power of some high draft selections ahead of the October exchange period, including picks No.1, 3 and 20 in the November NAB AFL Draft.
Collingwood
Regularly linked with high-profile recruiting prospects, the Magpies will again be in the hunt this time round. With a Collingwood contract comes plenty of incentives: cash, first class facilities, business contacts, and more. Skipper Nathan Buckley is nearing retirement, which would leave the captaincy vacant sometime in the near future. The flipside of the black and white coin is that Collingwood is arguably the most scrutinised Victorian club. Would that influence Judd's decision?
Essendon
The Dons are about to begin a new era without four-time premiership coach Kevin Sheedy and champion James Hird – and they’d love a ready-made champion to fill Hird’s boots. There’s plenty of uncertainty at Windy Hill, which could make the move there more or less attractive, depending on your view. Of course, a new senior coach may well be installed in time for the October 8-12 trade week.
Hawthorn
Hawthorn's recruiting model has paid dividends this year, with list manager Chris Pelchen one of the best in the business come trade time. Although an over-achiever, Judd is just 24, and certainly not too old for the Hawks’ needs. They’re a happy club on the rise, and with Richie Vandenberg retiring and the captaincy available, Judd may well find Glenferrie a perfect fit.
Melbourne
Judd barracked for the Demons as a boy, and they’ll be more than keen to put a sentimental touch on his homecoming. As with Essendon, there’s a new era unfolding at Melbourne with Dean Bailey at the helm. With Judd’s top priority reportedly family rather than megabucks, perhaps the Demons are a genuine prospect.
THE OUTSIDERS
St Kilda
The Saints having signed up some key stars this year, including Nick Riewoldt and Nick Dal Santo, and may not have the salary cap for Judd – or would have to re-jig their total player payments accordingly.
Geelong
With the competition’s strongest list, the Cats arguably have less need for a player of Judd’s calibre than any other Victorian club. Chance of success may be a lure for Judd, but if he’s moving to Melbourne to be close to family, it’s hard to see him heading off down the highway.
Kangaroos
The Roos' future has been the subject of much debate in recent years, and with a Gold Coast move potentially on the cards, they seem an unlikely fit for a Melbourne-bound Judd. Still, they are a tight-knit playing group, a team that continually delivers over a long period of time, and a lower profile club. All of which could be attractive.
Western Bulldogs
After a disappointing season, the Dogs have already signaled their intentions to rejuvenate their list. Retirements and delistings leave room for a big inclusion, and they could be a dark horse to snaffle Judd. Last year, the Dogs acquired Jason Akermanis via the trade period and will doubtless want to have a crack at this year's biggest name.
Richmond
Richmond holds some key cards in the drafting order – No.2, No.18 and No.19 – in November and it will be eager to be in the Judd mix. Where the Tigers sit though for Judd will be interesting, considering the yellow and black finished on the bottom this year. Richmond will no doubt be eager to reinvigorate its list and what better way to start with Judd.
Carlton is dreaming of they think that the Eagles would be interested in Fevola...No doubt they (Carlton fans) would like to think that Fev may attract some interest but what benefit does that hold for the Eagles with a forward line of reasonable goal kickers including Lynch, Hansen and LeCras...
If they made that move all i see is a repeat of the Shockers...uumm Dockers move in acquiring Tarrant....Which was the best move Malthouse ever made for Collingwood...I wouldve given Tarrant away for a stale loaf of bread...
And while i am not doubting Judd's ability and talent (which one poster seemed to think was the case)....not one person can unconditionally state while he is in that bracket of young/ish core of superstars, whether this groin injury could have long lasting effects.
If this was me replying you one of your previous posts, I wasn't questioning that, just stating that it's not as much of an issue 'giving up young core' cause he is also young
Very right with this groin injury though! I don't know much about it or groin injuries in general, but I will say that I can't think of a case of an on-going 1 that has hampered and ruined someones career? Feel free to name some, cause I'd be interested to know
Time will tell... It's stupid - I would love him at Hawthorn for a good price.... it won't happen... and no skin off my nose really kind of used to Hawthorn being rejected by big name players.... but I haven't been able to stop thinking about having Judd in the side!
You could!...but you would no longer have Buddy in the side
West Coast are set to favour high draft picks, rather than players, in exchange for departing superstar Chris Judd.
The 24-year-old stunned the club on Sunday when he revealed his desire to leave Perth and return to Victoria to be closer to family and friends.
And while coach John Worsfold and chief executive Trevor Nisbett both admitted it would be impossible to replace the Brownlow and Norm Smith medallist, they were determined to receive fair recompense.
"I thought he would go home at some stage, but I thought we would get a couple more years," Nisbett said.
"As the day moved on (yesterday) apart from crying a lot I got over it, and I started to think about the football club, its supporters, its members and how we will handle it.
"As disappointed as we are we understand the situation, and we are going to work with Chris to get the best deal we can for our club and hopefully get the right deal for Chris.
"He is worth a lot, he is our captain he has been one of the best players, if not the best players in the competition.
"So he is worth a lot - and I think the clubs that Chris will talk to over the next few weeks will understand that."
Judd's possible destinations were avoided by the player as skilfully as he evaded tackles at Subiaco, although Carlton, Essendon, Richmond, Collingwood, Melbourne and St Kilda are all thought to be in the frame.
The Blues' draft picks - 1,3 and 20 - and the financial clout of chairman Dick Pratt seem to put them in the best position.
Despite losing one of the AFL's modern greats, Nisbett said he was comfortable with the way the club had left Judd alone to make his decision.
And Worsfold said he was also confident the Eagles' historical policy of developing recruits could serve them well again.
"We will just go to the draft and pick a number out, pretty straightforward - but you are not going to get Chris Judd that is obvious," Worsfold said.
"We are very very confident our recruiting guys will recruit extremely well, using whatever picks we have.
"I don't think you can go wrong bringing in talented young players through high draft picks or any draft picks, working with the players and developing them.
"But times change at clubs, so we will have a look at where we sit to be a very strong contender next year, but also aiming for sustained success.
"We had not been able to plan too much in terms of player contracts and looking at what we need to add to the club next year because Chris was going to be a big part of that either way.
"Our planning for next year starts now."
looks like draft picks will seal the deal,
i cant wait for the blues next season
Mate draft picks ONLY seal the deal if Judd chooses to go to Carlton.
Because it doesn't matter if the Eagles trade him to Carlton... he doesn't have to sign for them and can then go play for Richmond as a pre season draft pick.
ok, but hes not gonna go richmond coz its down to 4 teams, Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon & Melbourne, they just said on footy classifieds, eagles want draft picks, blues have good picks, plus money, plus maybe a player or two, but not fev.
but as you said, its up to Judd....

Even though Collingwood will write a Blank Cheque for him as they do for ALL big name players. I'm finding it hard to think he;d like to be anywhere but Melbourne (And no not cause I'm a Melbourne supporter). If he's intent on winning, he'd stay in Perth, so itd have to be a different reason, and what better than using your incredible talents to lift your childhood supported club to their first premiership in 45+ years? (Yes I said 45, even though it's only 43 now, I'm being realistic). Other teams could probably offer him more money, but not more than the Eagles, and I don;t see there being anything else drawing him anywhere else...right now
And why would he pick Carlton above any of the others? He'd be giving away the chance to ever win anything again in his career if he did that.
