I was reading the daily news on hoopshype and saw this article

in a previous segment, Pippen declared LeBron James better than Michael Jordan . . . at an equivalent age, I assume, maybe not. I'm actually down with that similar age premise. But, for most, comparing Kobe Bryant (like Charles Barkley doesn't have agenda!) or James to His Airness is a stone sacrilege. A source claims Pippen was asked off camera if he was for real? Ahem, or just looking to stir things up in hopes of gaining national? "Not only am I serious about LeBron being better," Pippen blithered, "I believe I was better than Michael." New York Post

even he if did say that and he thinks he is then why didnt he win a championship without mike its not like he didnt have a chance

nah i think it was a fake article - probably made up. nba.com had a story a couple weeks back with a deep interview with Pippen. He was sayin MJ is better than any of today's players. Went as far as saying that without the defence guidelines of 10 years ago in today's game, guys are scoring more freely and that there was no question in his mind that MJ would got 80pts if he was to play these days. Pretty deep interview.... OFC he says MJ is the best he ever saw!

Pippen did indeed say on ESPN that Lebron is better than MJ this deep into his NBA career (3rd season).
That is a FACT.

can't comment about pippen saying he was better than jordan, i don't think i believe that.

as for jordan scoring 80+
its possible under the newer defensive guidelines in the league though unlikely given he had pippen by his side as another scoring option.
the lakers currently have no other scoring options as diversely talented as pippen. as good as odom is, pippen was more talented on both sides of the ball, particularly defensively.

having said this, obvious to me that the lakers roster outside of kobe is underestimated. odom is becoming more reliable, and kwame brown is obviously emerging as a prominent piece in the line up, and still maturing. smush parker is also doing particularly well, especially as going from a nobody to a starting PG in one of the NBA's leading markets (Los Angeles).

Interesting... what would Scottie know? He didn't even play with Jordan in his 3rd year did he? Obviously I am a Jordan fan :) How can he compare 3rd year Lebron and Jordan if he didn't play with Jordan then?

Comparing Stats? Jordan scored 37.1ppg, 5.2rpg, 4.6apg, 2.9spg, 1.5bpg on 48.2% fg shooting in his 3rd year...LeBron had slightly higher assist and rebound numbers, but everything else was less....I will say it again, what was Scottie Thinking?!

IMH Lebron is no closer to Jordan than Pippen is........they aren't even in the same class !!! As for Pippen saying he was better than Jordan.....I don't believe that.

i think LeBron is a class above Pippen as a scorer, thats pretty obvious, but Pippen was a MUCH better defender, i'd still choose LeBron over Pippen any day of the week and twice on sundays :)

Yeah but would you choose LJ over Pippen if you already had MJ on your team......I wouldn't !

it's interesting that everyone has compared LJ to Jordan when he's more of a Scottie type player. MJ played much of the 2 and 1 spot, whereas Scottie played the 3 most of the time chipping in time at the 2,1 and 4 as well. Lebron plays the 3 most of the time after that getting minutes at the 2 and 1.

Lebron is much more similar to Scottie in size also, and his rebounding and assist numbers are much closer to Scottie's also.

I'd class Lebron in the same class as Scottie, but taking Scottie's remarkable defensive abilities and changing them to remarkable defensive abilities. Lebron would only be in MJ's class if he had the ability to lock down on the perimeter and he was an All-NBA Defensive type defensive player.

Personally I think Scottie was a better player than LJ is, or at least a more versatile and overall player.

Scottie killed Lebron on defense and his steals numbers (2.94 in 94-95) are legendary. It's a shame he averaged 1.96 for his career, would've liked to see him top the 2.00 mark but he was great defensively.

Scottie's career high's in rebounds and assists, 8.7 rpg and 7.0 apg respectively are just as good as Lebrons if not better although 6.4 and 5.2 over his career don't look as good as Lebrons career numbers.

Offensively Scottie was great too, he averaged 18-19 every season with a full team of players WITH MJ also averaging 30+ ppg. So you can imagine it was hard to score that much, and when MJ left he topped the 20 mark for 22.0 ppg as a career high.

He shot the 3-ball and ran the floor just as good if not better than Lebron also.

I may be biased but I personally think that Scottie is definately one of the top 3 most versatile players of all time and best all-round players in history.

Career highs of 22.0 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 7.0 apg, 2.94 spg, 1.23 bpg, 52% FG's, 37% 3's, 82% FT's and 40.2 minutes look pretty amazing to me.

Nice one jimbo i agree with you there i think the only player that you can compare to Mj is Kobe i think kobe is better then LJ and almost as good as mike.

Well said Jimbo, agree with your synopsis......I don't think Kobe is up there with Jordan though Gordo, close but not that close ;)

Who remembers Wilt the Stilt, now there was a scoring machine :)

I wonder if scottie scored against MJ on this play in my Avatar ;) lol.......who cares about comparing really......they are all great players seriously.......MJ is the greatest player of all time though hands down..
