can anyone help me with this? i had a mental lapse and accidently won an auction that only accepts money order/cashiers check, and i have never used either one of these to pay before, only paypal and bank deposit. so what are they and whats the difference between the two?

thanks.

money orders you have to get from the post office and then redeem them there also, as for the cashiers check i think they are from a bank ,over the counter using money in your account, they write out a bank cheque to whom ever it is to, but i think they cost quite a bit

mate they cost a bit like Cath says... umm you can do them at banks, some post offices and places like western union (name?) Basically they just send a cheque to the seller from you in whatever currency but charge you the exchange rates, exchange rates fee, their fees and any bank fees lol That is why they are expensive. I don't recommend those method of payments at all because they are not traceable.. meaning if you got ripped off. bye bye cash! Also sometimes they take a couple of weeks to clear or arrive. Bloody big hassle, big fees and not so great in my opinion mate. Hope I have helped you? different in mo and paypal is...
MO - more complicated, fees, slower and more risky than Paypal.

hmm, thanks for the help guys, sounds like either one is a big hassle. i might try and persuade the seller to relist.

International Money Orders from the Post Office and cost about $10 each from memory! It sucks that BidPay is now gone , that used to be ok for US transactions. But for Germany ? Maybe you can pay in Weiner Schnitzels !

Money orders are the devil.

I sold a card to America once and the buyer paid via International Money Order. I went to the post office and they say they can't cash it and that I should go to my bank. I did, and they say they can't cash it. So I tell the buyer I'm gonna send her back the money order and then she can pay me via cash... but she never did.

So she got a free card. :(

JZA, maybe try to send Euros (or whatever currency the German wants) through as cash. Sure, it's risky, but perhaps get Registered International post for it (you're guaranteed tracking - but not insured for cash).

I have sent US cash for some stuff, and thankfully haven't had a problem. Basically, I put the money in a toploader & then wrap it in my eBay receipt (as it has my details) and send to seller.

Good luck with it.

How did you end up going with this Jez, I just did the same thing but managed to talk him into sending cash.

well i sent the money order (cost $8 or so) and a few days after got confirmation from the seller that she had recieved it and the card would be sent out the next day, and she left good FB straight away so that was good. she seems like a good seller, good FB, very polite and good communication so im not too worried. i guess she just didnt want to pay paypal fees...

im not spewing about paying the money order charge though, i picked up a patch that books for $150 for about $30, so im still getting a steal

im waiting to hear if a seller has gotten my bank cheque in the states...Im lucky coz my old man works in the bank, so something that would cost 20 bucks or so I get for free...but I hate buying this way
