When i first discovered hip-hop/rap it was all that US S***. I got bored of it cos of the same sort of beats and rhythm. As well as half of it about being some H.K Gangsta. but then i moved onto the aussie stuff. Fav artists are..

Hilltop hoods
1200 Techniques
After Hours
Funkalo
Weapon X n Ken Hell
Take it eezy heezy (the comedy side)
+ many more.

Also some US rapcore is alright such as Rage against the machine.

What is it u like?

People like Hip Hop? You're kidding me!

EDIT: Hilltop Hoods is hip hop? Hmmm maybe 1 song then, but only cause it brings back uni memories, not cause it resembles music :)

It is "US ****" but its not the normal rap you'd hear... Try Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Murs, Sage Francis, Lyrics Born... just a few.

Yes some US **** sucks, but dude, I'd def rather here some decent beats than a thick aussie accent destroying a song. US is where hip hop/rap comes from, especially the culture. Hilltops are ok though. Depends on what you like, from the sounds of things you'd like Demigods, Cunninglinguists, Jurassic 5, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli.

Big fan of Rage Against the Machine but missed their reunion tour unfortunately.

If you like Oz Hip Hop, check out Funkoars and Hijak N' Torcha, you won't be let down.

Sounds like youre listening to whats on the radio as far as US Rap goes...Thats a HORRIBLE example lol. You gotta have a shovel handy and dig deep into the Underground (Some arent THAT Underground) for that good stuff. A few that Depity mentioned, Demigodz (Army Of The Pharaohs, Jedi Mind Tricks too) Talib Kweli, Mos Def (Blackstar), Common, Classified, Chino XL, Big L, Canibus, Celph Titled, Apathy, Vinnie Paz, Louis Logic (The last 4 are pretty much part of AOTP and JMT mentioned above), Magno, K-Rino...It all depends on what kind you like. If you strictly like Beats with simplistic rhymes, youd love the Bay Area rap scene for the most part. If you care more for lyrics rather than beats (Not that the beats are bad by any means), you should listen to a lot of the guys I just mentioned. If you like the Conscience/Soulful Hip-Hop, Talib/Mos/Common/Lupe/Kanye are for you. Just my 2 cents...

Mos Def is one of my favs, good mention along with Common. Mos Defs come along way from Black on Both Sides and strayed away from the sound of that debut solo, that's the only reason I don't listen to him as much. Blackstar was a great album too.

One of my favorite US MC's - Pharoahe Monch. Recommend the OP check his stuff out for a fresher sound than what the US mainstream is pumping out.

i like listening to Pharoahe Monch, he killed it at Good Vibes, Jay-Z, Wyclef, OutKast, Notorious BIG, Kanye West (his Glow in the Dark show was awesome at Good Vibes as well), Mos Def, Big L, Eminem, T.I., Wu-Tang.

not to fussed on Aussie stuff, i do sumtimes listen to Figg Kidd and a bit of the kiwi stuff from Scribe, P Money.

I also listen to these guys

Common

Damn Josh! How'd you meet Red and Meth??? :worthy:

I was at their Melbourne Show a few years back, waited a long time for that!

Nice artists comming up I love talib him and canibus are my favorites canibus kills anyone on the written part of hip hop hes unstopable. I dont know how good he is freestyling. Big l was awsome , I also like mf doom for hes witty rhymes and you can listen and smile. One Uk artists I like is Mystro hes got great skills better then most you hear. I hate 50 cent and most of that crap on the radio if you listen to soldier boy then I hate to say it but its not even hip hop.

hip hop has been overrun by R&B bull****, you gotta go underground to hear any decent stuff now. aussie hip hop is getting pretty good these days, our local station fresh fm plays some good stuff: muph, plutonic, bliss and eso, terra firma etc.
