Some cards i'm watching on ebay are a "private listing", can someone tell me what this means, and why a seller would use it?. It just seems a bit shady, and could be used to shill undetected. should i avoid private listings altogether?, or is there a legitimate reason for a seller doing this,thanks.

basically just means that u cant see who purchases the item or bids on them as far as i know (gives the buyer privacy). i often purchase cards (nrl/arl) from a seller that mainly only lists as private listings and i know his items are not being shilled.
im not entirely sure if there is any other advantages to listing as private tho
