Just got a random PM on another forum of a renown big spending collector chasing on of my pc cards thats pretty hard to come by...

Its my 97/98 EX Credentials Now Cedric Ceballos #/42.

He has offered me about 7x what I paid for it 5 years ago.

But what are the chances I will get another and how much would that cost me???

Its a considerable offer, so just getting some thoughts...

Depends.

If you treasure the card then no price will do.

If you're open to selling, then 7x profit is a no brainer!

If you need the money for real life expenses then maybe sell... If you are just going to put it back in the hobby then I reckon hold unless you will use it on something you would value more than the card..... If to spend on wax.... easy answer.... Don't sell!!!!

If you are chasing another pc card it need the funds take it. But if you don't and its that hard to find I say keep it.

it's a good difficult position to be in Will
if you bought it for $1 and the dude is offering $7 then keep it ;)
but if the offer can pay bills or more rare PC cards then don't even hesitate. 7x returns don't come round every 5 years, if ever :kick:

like Andrew said if it were /10 or less the decision may be a little bit harder. but despite being rare at /42 your chances of picking it up again are high

If he is offering 7x what you paid for it. And you are only considering it..
What about asking for 10x what you paid for it. Would that make you feel a bit happier to let it go?

Go shopping for a card that would be valued at the amount that he is offering!

Then, if you like the new card better that the Cedric, you should do it!

Take the Money. He's come after you, that means he's gonna offer a price you cannot get elsewhere. If you are going to try sell it, then you probably won't get the same amount......and numbered to 42 isn't that low, and the value of someone like Ceballos is not going to skyrocket, unlike someone like Jordan, Kobe, LeBron etc.

You should also consider how some of those particular sets have gone up themselves, compared to 5 years ago. As a lot more people are interested in them.

Just for comparison, considering what other 1997/98 credentials of similar caliber/priced players with similar numbering, a rough guess would put a Ceballos /42 around $70 give or take $20
Juwan Howard /49 went for $67
Mutombo /49 went for $70
Richmond /60 went for $68

So it it wasn't massively above that range as well, I probably wouldn't bother as you might need to pay a premium again anyway!

And if there happens to be other Ceballos collectors, they can sometimes help push that much higher than you'd think.

Yeah I can assure you all its a lot higher than those figures posted above.

I'm leaning towards selling it now as I can buy the 99/00 EX Credentials Future #/9 and have plenty left over.

I don't flip cards if they belong in my PC as I will regret selling them later.

In general I do not sell many cards. If someone gives me a good offer and the card means nothing to me I would sell, however I don't really collect stuff I don't want so its a catch 22 for me haha.

If you're talking over a couple hundred I'd sell it. You'll be able to pick one up again for under $200 on auction.
