I didn't know exactly where to post this up but I just had a question in regards to Western Union money orders. I'm interested in a card on another int'l Ebay (Germania) and they don't accept Paypal but the selelr has said he would accept a Western Union money order.
Now whats the deal? If I send the MO and I don't receive anything, am I able to make a claim if the MO has been presented to a bank? I have heard they're high risk but is there anything I should know?
I've never sent money order's overseas so I'm not sure of the benefits/risks of either.. I know Ebay warns against them (WU) and that is a fairly good reason to be wary. I'll go and see what the PO thinks.
minimal protection, longer process from receiving payment to receiving the item and more costly as well. there around $10 the last time i used them when i didnt have paypal.
Ok, you go to a Western union outlet (Cashies, Post office) and say I wanna send $.... to Mr X
They take ur cash plus like a $10-$15 fee and give you a number
You give the person the number by email, they toddle off to a western union branch and redeem the $$

not really any pros to money orders but definitely 2 major cons:
1. it costs about $15+ for international money orders.
2. if they rip you off, you got no protection. basically you gotta trust the seller to be one of the good ones.
ive only ever used a money order twice before, both times to acquire cards i was deperately after. 95% of the time i wont even think about bidding on an auction that is money order only, no paypal.
I used them twice, got jipped on one, and it took an email to the seller to ask for the cards after I found out they had cashed the MO.
Trav, I'd let it go, I wouldnt use one this day and age.
There's a member or two on here who are from Germany, they might be able to get the card via some sort of a Bank Transfer in their own country, and you paypal them??
I spent nearly 15 mins at the PO today to find out that nobody there really knew anything about Western Union money orders. I wanted to base my final decision on any experiences you guys have had anyway and it doesn't look good hey. I also tend to not get involved with auctions that don't accept Paypal but this card, while not expensive is fairly hard to get and I got excited when it popped up. (Don't quote me on that )
I'll see if any of our German friends can help out and go that way. Cheers for your thoughts
