well guys,
I just moved back to Rockhampton Qld, after spending the last 4 years in country victoria.... im glad to get out of my gf's parents house.......i was driven nuts by her mum...and offered a total of 60 thousand coffees.

its going to be a hard year....my gf and i have decided to save for a house this year, and build it in qld.........so yeah......i have come back to rocky to set up and stuff....then she will come to me later on in the year....its going to be really hard doing the long distance thing.

my gf's parents were really really shocked when i told them im moving out (y gf and i stayed with her parents while we are saving = not a good idea)

Has anyone here been in a long distance relationship? if so any pointers?

i woke up the first morning without my gf and was like "holy crap where am i??.....i don't hear my gf's mum so i must be in heaven or something"

no idea why im typing this thread, or why i put it in the heated disussions haha

I have never done it but i can imagine the long distance thing would be a pain in the a. I am sure you guys can work through it, and in my experience one of you will crack and move to the other.

Good to see you back in rocky...we will have to catch up for a beer!

is 2 hours out of Melbourne when you dont drive long distance? i realize its not interstate but yeh still kinda far :P i duno how i pulled that off for 2 years lol! I guess the only advice i have for you is get used to talking on the phone!

get used to talking on the phone!

That pretty much sums up your predicament... also getting a webcam or something like would be a good idea; my girlfriend's older sister's boyfriend had to go to England for 6 months for his job, and she was always on the phone, the net or on a webcam...

Also i disagree with everything already said (just my attempt to make this a heated discussion;) )

Yeh, what Chiller said, Get used to being on the phone a lot, writing a lot of emails and the like.

And i know the feeling of living with parents to save for a house and how frustrating it is, Tara and I (and our oldest) stayed with my mum for about 9 months to save for a house deposit and it frustrated me so god knows how poor tara must have felt.

Mate, if you're both meant to be together you've got nothing to worry about. It'll be hard but you're both looking/working towards the future with your house situation so just ride it out. It's not like you're in different countries or continents and catching up and keeping in touch will be easy.

Nice post, I love those old coffee stories. Good luck with your girl mate, I'm sure it will work out for ya.
my advice is be happy you guys live on the same side of the world. I went out with a Swiss girl for a couple of years... she came back twice and I went there once... she wanted to move here, but finding her work she'd be happy with was going to be a problem and so were permanent visas (and i wasn't ready to propose). it was all too hard and we basically gave up cos I didn't want to live in Switzerland either. she was offered a long term job she couldn't refuse and i last saw her at Zurich airport where we both had no idea that would be it. after another 6 months, the phone calls arent enough and become a little monotonous. it's a sad story. :p
as for some advice, i think the regular phone calls, emails etc are important in making it work, so yeah get used to it ;)

hey mate i do the long distance thing, and yeah its hard, but ive done it for 4 years, and we are doing great,my girl is in melb,so whats for hours, but for you its a different story.
good luck mate, and im sure you will be fine

cheers

I too am about to find out what it is like. My son has made the QAS for Football (soccer) and he and my wife (married 17yrs) have moved to Bris from T'ville. 1600km's by road. 2hrs by plane. Only been for 2 weeks so far. I am staying here to see my eldest son through yr12 at school as it is a good idea not to disrupt it at this point. We are looking to see each other monthly. Might have to invest in a web cam.

Ask Chad... he says a jar of vasso and a box of tissues fixes everything......

Haha...yeah and this picture of graham;) ;)
