Hi,

I'm getting a package sent here from the US which is valued at about $600. I'm getting $700 of insurance coverage on it.

Normally when I buy a card the seller would just put it on the customs declaration as a cheap gift to avoid tax. But with this one I assume they will put a sticker on there to say they value for insurance, correct?

How does our customs tax work? What would I have to pay for a package valued between $400-700? Anything?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

You will be ok mate.

Only consignments over $1000 require Duty or GST payments when imported.

....And you can quote me on that. :D

FYI:

-If you under-declare the value of imported goods - you can be hit by larger percentages of Duty/GST as a punishment.

-Duty/GST is taken from the "true value" of the goods (>$1000), unless you can prove that you have purchased the goods for under $1000 (online receipt, bank statement)

Taxable Limits:

International POST - >$1000
Air Freight - >$1000 (FEDEX, DHL, UPS etc.)
Aircraft Passenger: >$900 (per person)

Hope this helps
