I know this had been posted up when it changed but didn't realise the impact until I started selling!

9% selling fee 4% Paypal fees................that is 13% in fees!

That is ridiculous!

That's basically like the auction houses.....I think they charge about 10-20%............but in those cases it is the buyers who pay.

And on top of that it is bargain hunters who buy on EBay too.

Not to mention the 4% paypal includes the postage... so you actually lose out more...

The 9% was raised because of lowered listing fees right? ...or free listings fees if you sell < 100 items every 30 days!?

We are currently working on something which we hope will be an alternative for those who list on ebay. If I wasn't going away for 3 weeks it would probably be launched fairly soon, however we are now looking at an end of May/early June launch. I will post more details soon

First 100 listings at $0.00-$0.99 are free. So that is a discount of like $0.30.......so if the item sells for $100, that is like 0.3% discount.

So previous fees about 5% maybe, plus 30c fee, sell for $100, that is $5.30 fees. Now flat 9% fee, that is $9.

The "free listing" is all a gimmick, to fool you that you arer somehow saving.

Ebay are like every other financial institution ... no more customer service its all about show me the money.
We are getting slugged fees at every turn.

Money from bank to paypal = bank fee
Money arrives in paypal = paypal fee
Spend money = another paypal fee
Money arrives at sellers account = another paypal fee.

This week I added $150 AUD to my paypal account.
There was $6 US in there.
After all was said and done I ended up with $145 total and that's all currencies.

And they call paypal a FREE service!!??

That is just incredable, I cannot believe the price they are charging, but there you go they have the market power and sellers have the choice. They are simply exersising their market power. If it was truely worth it a group would get together and set up a rival site that could beat them at their own game it is just ebay doit so well and now they are reaping their reward, it really is a great study into market power for anyone that is into business.

I really wish there was more competition in the field, though the only one who would be able to compete with them probably wouldn't go there (Google) since eBay are their biggest advertiser.
