With the dollar now teetering low 80s (paypal even more so) - I have found that I am now less inclined to scour ebay for cards.

It's a great time to sell but not so much a great time to buy (which sucks!)

Has the dollar stopped you from buying cards / wax in recent months? I really want to buy, buy, buy yet I now refrain from it knowing that a $100 usd card plus ship+comc fees = approx 138-140 AUD.

Feel free to vote :)

I voted "no, I am an addict." but in reality i am new to the scene so it has def not stopped me from purchasing roughly about 6 cards in the $90-100 range recently.
I am def feeling the low AUD atm

I'm an addict.

Saying that I have scaled back my collecting over the past year to just things I really like/want so I'm not spending as much as I used to giving me the funds to buy what I please in these low $ times

Definitely at a cross roads with the collection. Whether you use PayPal or credit card , you take an extra 4 cents off the actual rate. So at the moment we are buying USD at 79 cents (21% mark up) for every dollar...this can add up very quickly. Obviously the smart thing to do is to scale back , but putting theory into practice is another question

Time to sell all those expensive cards you picked up when the dollar was good!

I have slowed down a lot. I purchased 2 cards yesterday for $8 and $9 and with shipping (to COMC) and the exchange rate it ended up being about $31 dollars AUD.

Ouch!

Absolutely! for me i usually buy card $300-$2000
And lately is an absolute "no go zone".
Just does not make sense paying extra $100-to almost $450 extra to me.
I all so think at the moment higher valued cards are selling for less because international buyers are aware of this and arent bidding as high as per usual.
So my theory is most cards are selling internationally hence the lowering of completed listings.
What do you guys think?

It probably won't effect my buying too much, but I have noticed change lately and I'm not a fan. I loved when our dollar was buying over a $1 USD.

Slowed down. It doesn't make sense to buy a card at what would be considered 'market value' but because of the devalued AUD$ means I end up paying a pretty premium for it. Thankful I accumulated the bulk of my collection when the AUD$ was on par and one stage stronger than the US$. Not a great time to be an 'addicted' buyer/collector.

Wax. Is a definite " no go" now and I rarely buy on eBay unless I get it for a ridiculous price. I operate pretty much solely on comc now buying and selling... I'm selling $200 - 300 a month and the flipping allows me to stay active and pick up some pc cards. However, I have to be less selective but I have built a great port from only a relatively small investment and am largely unaffected by the falling dollar.... It actually helps, especially if I want to withdraw, but I like to keep growing my port at the moment....

It played a part in my scaling back as most of the cards I want are 200+ so it adds up pretty quick... but still addicted ( Eating is over rated anyways!) took a few notes from Verse1 over the last year and I am buying a lot less but still picking up some must haves along the way.

scaled back to faried cards to rookie year only so that im not longer buying everything. Noticed a saving instantly. However over christmas I might look to a few of the asian ebay sellers who would ship direct to load up on the low end cards ive previously been missing to pad out the numbers a bit.

Just being smarter about what i grab and how.

Here's a side argument for you:

Maybe 80c / to the $ will be looked at as a bargain in the months to come?

Just because the $ is now lower than what we were previously trading at, we see it this as 'non value'.
I recall the days of 48c-55c to the $ and I was still buying cards, when it increased to 75 and higher to 80c I was ecstatic.

I don't think we will see 48-55c anytime soon but 80c still isn't the worst result. In saying all of this, I have curbed my buying habits :D
