After a couple of nights indulging in casinos, nightclubs, strip clubs.... If you get my drift. The fact that the UFC event being cancelled didn't even bother me especially when I'm having so much fun. So I decided to pull my head out of all these vices and visit a couple of stores.
One of the biggest problem in Las Vegas is the weather. It is about 40 degrees during the daytime (at this time of the year). So to walk around during the daytime is almost impossible. My first instinct is to visit all stores within the strip. Mainly because in the strip, the casinos are all interlinked by underground air-conditioned walkways which made maneuvering around the strip very easily. In the strip, there are 3 sports "card stores", Memorabilia international, K&B sports cards and A Sarno's sports cards.
The first was Memorabilia International, fabulous store to visit but one big thing missing, they do not sell cards, mainly autographed photos, Jersey, balls. They even sell legal tender $1 bills with faces of Lebron James, Dwight Howard, etc... Very good keep sake to be honest. I was pretty lucky in the sense that they were doing a 50% sale on almost all their product range, including the infamous framed UD Michael Jordan jersey !!!! They had a few of them. If I had sufficient luggage space, I would have definitely taken it. I also missed the chance to meet up with the owner and therefore did not get permission from the owner to take any photos. Again, if any of you are interested in autographed memorabilia, this is a place for you.
The next part is more of about the evolution of this ever-changing hobby. In the directory down here, they still had the names of these 2 card stores, K&B and A Sarno's sport cards store. Did my usual thing, gave them a ring just to check them out but in both instances nobody picked up the phone. I gave it a go anyway since I am passing by that area. True enough, those 2 cards store have closed down!!!! Spoke to the other collector/friends about their whereabouts. Most of them attributed their demise to really a lack of a sports team here in Las Vegas, in fact the biggest team down here is actually college, UNLV (University of Nevada Las Vegas). Everybody here seems to be following the UNLV football and basketball team much more than the the professional teams. It is just sad to see the stores close down but really not surprised.
There is another store Legacy Sports Cards which I know is still in existence. If weather permits, I will make an attempt there. Big hint here, if you really want to visit a card store here, you would have to take a cab or have your own card here.
What a shame.....sounds like all that time you were planning to spend in the card stores will have to be used in some other way. Perhaps you can file a comprehensive strip club report with us instead!
Sounds like you are having a ball Alex! Party hard!
