So seeing as I got myself hooked on this whole sketch art caper, I started following some artists on Twitter and Facebook etc. One of my favorite "follows" is Meghan Hetrick, whose posts about her process of sketching etc are massively interesting and informative. Meghan has awesome skills, especially when it comes to drawing anatomy and the female form, and with me being a bloke, I kind of enjoy the female anatomy as opposed to the alternative !
Now up until now, my sole representative of Meghan's art has been this guy - a Banth from the Warlord of Mars set. Nice art, but not so sexy!
So a little while back Meghan announces that she is doing a bit of a fund raiser towards getting some new digs, so she launched "Project Sexy 2013 - Homeward Bound" where she was going to do a number of characters in double card size sketches. A number of characters were snapped up before even being started and once I saw the outline of Dark Phoenix, I knew I wanted it. I think I've pretty much decided which characters I'm going to PC and had already started with a couple of Jean/Phoenix sketches, but this would be the centre piece of that collection. Well, today it arrived and wow this piece is something! Holding it in hand the color and detail is incredible, even the hair, skin toning and background is meticulous. So here you go, Dark Phoenix by Meghan Hetrick -
But there was another piece that also caught my eye, kind of the opposite to the firey Phoenix, and that was a character called Aspen Matthews. Now I haven't really read comics in years.... err... decades, but I did a little research and the story of "Fathom" which the character comes from and it's creator Michael Turner was both sad and inspiring and not only prompted me to buy this sketch, but to go and get a book of his work with it's amazing art work and very interesting story lines. You can read a bio of him here - http://www.comicvine.com/michael-turner/4040-3626/
So here is Aspen Matthews from Fathom by Meghan Hetrick -
The scans really don't do these pieces justice. They are pretty amazing and I hope some day to get some more examples of Meghan's art. If you want to see more of Meghan's work you can follow her on twitter - https://twitter.com/MeghanHetrick or her two facebook pages - https://www.facebook.com/MeghanHetrickArt and https://www.facebook.com/Meghanhetrick
