I think Taffster's example is spot on! It's just that some people who use the term 'True rc' are referring only to the first released, which I think is wrong. It should be the first from each release!

Hey, another Q? what about say Kidd's Fleer and Ultra (and Hoops?) 94-95 releases that had 2 RCs (Series 1 & 2). Both considered RCs yeah? I'm guessing the S1 release a "TRUE" RC and the 2nd still an RC.

From memory, the Series 1 of Ultra had Kidd in a warm-up jersey (un-branded) and the S2 had him in a Mavs Uni.

I think the auto would just be called a 'true RC auto' imo

With the Kidds, the series 2 is RC year, but not RC I think

And the jersey ones are subsets.

Nah part of normal base run mate, 94-95 Ultra didnt have subsets:

I always thought it had to be readily available to everyone, so not limited and in packs. So not including a redemption. Also, in the 80's you could buy, I think Topps, team packs at their home court. These couldn't be RC, because they're not available to everyone.
Not sure these conditions effect any of the ones mentioned.

The auto would be True RC as it is listed separately in the checklist as Donruss Signatures #232

You are right in SOME cases. For example, redemptions aren't excluded it only some of the RC's are redemptions. Meaning that out of 40 RC's from a year, 5 are redemptions. They would still be considered RC's, however, like in 11/12 Past & Present, where the whole set are redemptions, they are considered XRC's.

And yes they need to be a 'pack pull' type product, not a pre determined 'team pack'.

The sets that you are thinking about were the Star cards available in team packs at arenas...they are all XRCs (including Jordan, Ewing, Barkley, Worthy etc). All of the rcs from Topps in the 80's are considered 'true' rcs.

The cousin's AU is considered as an insert, not a true RC. The Jason Kidds from 1994-95 series 1 are true RC's.
