Lately, I've been seeing many people on numerous card forums stating the dangers of leaving your cards in magnetic holders/screw downs.
They mentioned that sometimes when you go to open the magnetic/screw down, a card's surface, sticker or autograph ink will stick to the plastic and really screw the card up with some damage.
For the longest time I've thought magnetic holders were for "fancy" cards and so I had all my high-end stuff in magnetics. I decided to take everything out of magnetics and put it into penny sleeves and toploaders and then put that toploader into a teambag.
Has anyone else made this transition lately?
On top of that transition discussion, I have a little concern that I'd like to bring up with everyone and get various opinions on.
I have 2 kinds of penny sleeves. Both are from the company Ultra Pro. One type is for completely normal cards and the other type advertises as being for thick cards. However, the thick penny sleeves are really big ha. So even a thick thick patch auto card will slide up and down in this penny sleeve. And when a card is inside this type of penny sleeve and placed into a toploader, the card will slide a bit out the toploader with just the slightest shake when the toploader is upside down. I hate it!!!
Ever since I can remember when I don't have a perfect fitting toploader for a card, and it's a little too big for the card, I'll stick a base card in the toploader with the card. Of course the main $$ card is in a penny sleeve and I just put the base card in the toploader with no penny sleeve to fill up the space inside the big toploader. It works really well.
I don't want to put a base card inside the thick penny sleeve with the main $$ card to take up space for fear of surface damage from the cards rubbing together.
So for this issue of having a too big of a penny sleeve for my thick cards I was wondering if you guys had an alternative type of penny sleeve I could buy?
I often notice that when I get packages in from other people, their thick cards are in perfect fitting penny sleeves that aren't the normal sized ones that would be impossible to get the card in, and not the super big ones I have. Where can I buy these? Anyone have any recommendations/website links to reliable penny sleeves?
Can't wait to hear personal experiences, insights and opinions on the various issues I have brought up above.
