Ok, so I just logged on to MSN Messenger which brings with it the obligatory ninemsn updates. And see one of the headlines is some Jewish clown talking about how Mel's apology is not enough and how he must "search deeper into his feelings and find why he is an anti-semite." Who really cares??? I mean, the Aborigines, native americans and blacks went through hell too, I don't see them bitching! And they have the hide to say Mel's movie "The Passion of the Christ" is anti-semitic. Well, sorry! I didn't realize the (Jewish) crowds shouting "Impale him, impale him" was a sign they wanted him set free and proclaimed king! I mean, they seem to like the part of the bible that proclaims them as the "chosen race", but then as soon as it comes to the part about them supporting the impaling of God's son, all of a sudden it's irrelivent... And then of course they complain when a soldier who's shooting at foreign nationals is kid=napped, but find nothing wrong with kid-napping the vice-president of the Palestinians along with several members of their parliment! What gives, seriously???

The Jewish leaders have been after Mel Gibson since the Passion of the Christ and fineally they got a chance. They are making such a big deal about it like he is the only person in the world to make a racist remark

apologies to the other members of the board with various religious beliefs, but about my ONLY religious belief is that if it weren't for religious beliefs we'd have a much more peaceful planet.

Now that sounded like sense - I guess it'll never be the way

I dont' want to start a big up roar with all the churchies but, every war is caused by religion so thats true proto, but I suppose there are some people that are into religion, what ever it is...

not EVERY war is caused by religion, most are, but not all....im an athiest and not afraid to admit it, so i have no leanings towards any religion, but i still think that if someone chooses to believe something they should not be persecuted for it, and Mel Gibson should not have said what he did, and btw, whoever claimed him to be racist for his "Anti-Semetic" comments is a little of base since Jewdism is a religion not a race

If you were to say you disliked Jews then I would deem that racist as Jews are considered a race just like colour is.........Hitler obviosly thought Jews were a race otherwise he would have attacked their religion rather then Jews as a race (JMO).

As for the subject at hand......From what I have heard and read, what Mel said was pretty harsh but an apology was made, what more do the Jewish community want him to do ?!?

whats your avatar from prototype?

its from Aphex Twin's Come To Daddy video clip, as discussed in the music video thread.

back to the topic at hand though:
I find religion somewhat a selfish thing.
parents often push their beliefs on their children, rather than letting them choose their faith (if any) for themselves.
and the reasons people follow their religion of choice often seem selfish too... because THEY want to get into "heaven", because THEY want to feel apart of something

i'm sure we've all heard the idiotic phrase "guns don't kill people, people kill people".
well if people weren't selfish enough to want to own guns, then there'd certainly be alot less gunshot deaths.
i feel similarly about religion.

i like what was said earlier about religion being the root cause of most wars.
that's always been reason enough for me to be non-religious.

Proto- I don't know what church you have ever been to but I know none of teh parents I deal with have ever pushed their religion onto their children and as a Children's Minister I have never done that either.
Obviously you used to go to Church since you think you know why every person who goes to Church but we certainly don't go just because WE want to get into Heaven. every one is entitled to their belief (and yes, even the kids) but no use telling us what our motives are

im not refering to any particular religion. but for many people of various faiths, their religion is a large part of their way of life. the exact motives behind people's beliefs are beside the point, they're generally inherently selfish reasons.

for me it all stems back to the same thing
religion leads to religious conflicts, which of course has lead to many wars... pain, suffering.. the whole lot

i choose not to be religious for the same reason i would never be apart of the armed forces. its pointless, and deconstructive.

i'm sure many people in the armed forces dont feel bad about what they do because they never actually shoot somebody in the head, but they're still a cog in what's essentially a killing machine.

i feel the same way about religious persons. just because you're not purposely going around hurting people doesnt mean you're not a part of a much larger problem.

there's nothing religion achieves that good-will towards your fellow man can't.

I can tell you my parents DID PUSH religion onto me, they even made me go to a Christian School which in turn made me do Religious Exams each year - WTF, as if I did't already have enough to study for

see people, now we have a clear explanation for richo
just kiddin' buddy :D

glad we could get a good example of what i was saying
i'm curious what percentage of schools in australia are religiously inclined
they're a clear cut example of parents pushing their beliefs on their children.

of course we're all allowed to believe what we wish to, but children are far too impressionable. it's not like they're ever given a full view of the spectrum of religions from which to choose from, especially not in these environments.
as far as i can see, they're told from day one, this is the true/right belief system... and all others are considered wrong, or at least flawed.

funny you mention that
it was a religious extravaganza on the south park double episode last night
it was borderline boring/informative
lol

Yup, that's how it was for me !

Obviously I rebelled but that's another story.....needless to say I didn' do too well in the old religious exams as I kept putting smart ass answers (lol)

I bet if I came out and said it, no one would give too shits, so why is it such a big deal if a lebrity says it??

F-ck people blow things up out of proportion, just cos they famous... PFFFT....!!!
